MacMall MBPs - $1350/2.4GHz, $1550/2.5GHz -- model mystery

I've been leaning toward buying an early-2008 MacBook Pro, either the 2.4GHz model ($1450 at Amazon or MacMall) or 2.5GHz (twice the cache and VRAM, $1650 at both sites).

Now, MacMall lists glossy 2.4's and 2.5's for $100 less. The problem: the model numbers are different -- MB487LL/A and MB488LL/A, instead of MB133 and 134LL/A.

I can't find the 487/488 numbers on Apple's site, only on retailers.

Anyone know what's up?

Sounds like the difference is glossy and matte.

Odd that Apple's site isn't more forthcoming with these numbers, but that's what I thought. Thanks for the link.

After spending some time in the Apple store with matte and gloss MBP 17-inch displays side-by-side, I've found to my chagrin that I actually prefer the glossy finish. After two years with MacBooks, I've learned to "look past" the faint sharp-edged reflections, and the diffuse reflections from the matte screen make that impossible.

Now all I have to do is decide between the 2.4 and 2.5, and finally turn my back on those mid-2007 2.4GHz 17-inchers for $1699 from MacConnection...

Hey, thanks for this link. I've been mulling an early-2008 MBP 2.4 vs the MB 2.4.

I'm pretty neutral on glossy vs. matte. Anybody have experience with MacMall rebates? Apple store refurb was/is the same price, but plus salses tax.
