so i am finishing up a Web site for a client and everyone is happy so far =)

and then i just get this email:

Thank you for making the changes as requested. When I open up the website using Yahoo the colors are different then when Mark opens it up on MSN browser. We like the MSN colors. Could you change that please?

Just mix and match until their eyes glaze over.

You: Oh gee, I'd love to do that, but unfortunately, Microsoft Word interferes with computers displaying MSN colors. You could install Microsoft Publisher and that would cancel out the interference, but then you would have to uninstall Windows to get it to work and then you couldn't see the internet or open PowerPoint for more than fifteen minutes at a time. Oh, and your Start menu would disappear on Tuesdays. Do you have Excel? You could try looking at the stie in Excel, but then you'd have to back up your hard drive to Entourage to make sure you didn't lose any e-mail or mp3s. I guess really, you're just out of luck.

Make her a deal. You'll "fix" that if she can fix the typo/grammar error in her request. You might luck out.

Just give him Marks version of "MSN"

Just blame it all on Adobomedia 's Flash.


Actually, when you manage to translate what the heck they are talking about it should be interesting to find out why one is seeing a color shift.

not only do, you, mr. or ms. client have to learn PHP [or choose your own server-side language], javascript, XML, perl, python, AJAX etc, but you need to understand various web protocols, Apache server config, version control, unix conf, not to mention they all want programmers to be Photoshop wizards and PShop wizzes to know code...and we need this done RIGHT NOW because my brilliant fscking promotional idea CAN'T WAIT, and oh, can you

Actually...your logo looks like one color when I view it in Yahoo and then it looks like another color when I view it in MSN browser...

Somehow, I can't imagine that this was what Al Gore had in mind when he invented the Interweb.

Yeah. But it would be difficult to ever sort out it in that fog of ignorance. Old monitor vs new monitor or thousands of colors vs millions of colors or even Mac vs PC?

I once had a client call up and complain that her site was purple. After a couple of days of aggravation, I found out she was using a monitor that was at least 10 years old.
