24" iMac - 2.8GHz = any cautions on this model?

A local who is moving away for a year wants to sell her iMac for an almost (to me) manageable price. Now, I can remember someone mumbling recently about the hassles of putting in a new HD in one of the iMacs but can't recall the specifics.

The last (& only) time I bought a new mac was for the G5/1.8 dual back when it came out and this one might be its replacement. I need to know what to look out for when I check the iMac out tomorrow.

any tips??????

Just buy some new games or something else to do with the spare time you'll have left over.

What vision said.
There are no known "dogs" among 24" iMacs. Hard drive replacement is a bear but I've done it on a 20" and the thing still works a little.

I just bought one. It's fast and quiet. The screen is beautiful. You won't be disappointed.

Another happy 24" 2.8GHz iMac owner. Very happy with it. I did the HD upgrade (320GB to 750GB) - while not for the faint of heart, it is doable as long as you take your time.

I say get the iMac, forget upgrading the HD.

It's probably more work than it's worth to swap out the HD unless you're extremely retentive about add-ons and cables.

Roll your own or buy a FW 800 external HD as jdc alludes, and be very happy.

I have the previous 2.4GHz 24" iMac and it's a thing of *great* beauty.

Macworld included an iMac 2.66 in a bake off between different MBP models and an eight core Mac Pro and I was surprised how well the iMac held it's own. The Mac Pro was the winner of course, but the results went a long way towards soothing my fears about going from a G5 tower to an iMac instead of an Intel tower.

Well, I bought it!

It's been a while since I last transfered stuff from one computer to another. Any good sources on how to do an easy transfer? This would be going from the G5/1.8 dual to the iMac 2.8.

Yea! I used Migration Assistant but I'd start from scratch if I had a do-over. But it works for most people.
