4th iBook failure: no replacement for me :(
Posted by: New.Dad

My iBook G3 failed again. First time it was the Video, second time multiple failures: Video, Battery and Hard Drive. Third time Video again. Now take a guess: it's Video again, but this time the unit doesn't even boot. I was able to boot a few times last night, saved all the data, so I am happy.

I stopped by the Apple Store today and spoke to them. They refused to replace it, but suggested that I call the AppleCare line and talk to them. Which I did, spoke to someone there, very nice and polite guy but he refused to approve a replacement. He transferred me to a Specialist, I talked to him, I explained that I am disappointed that I have the 4th time the same issue but he politely declined to approve a replacement. So looks like I am getting the iBook G3 repaired once again.

It would have been nice to get a G4, but not gonna happen for me sad smiley

Yes, I saw that. I asked to talk to a "Specialist", otherwise the first guy offered to send me the box do that I could ship it in. So I got to talk to the Specialist who refused my polite request for a replacement...

Very surprising.
I've heard it's Apple Policy.

Try again, and see if you'll get a different person who may be more sympathetic.

Some of us got the replacement without having to demand for it... When my fourth failure occurred, they offered the replacement right away.

You don't want to talk to a specialist, you need to talk to Customer Relations. Your best bet lies with them. I think I have one of their numbers around here somewhere (from my replacement ordeal) if you need it.

When you call Apple, you must call Customer Relations, not Customer Service.

It is what it is.

Hi Golfer,

Please send me the phone number if you still have it. Thanks

with 4 failures you should definitely be given a new machine. talk to apple customer relations. hopefully you won't need to say mch to them.

The first 'supervisor' you speak to is still within CS. Escalate from there and you get to CR. CS can not replace a machine.

Also check with your state's consumer protection division. In Florida, it's three strikes and you get a replacement.

Yeah, ditto the Chas! Lemon law or something. And follow Otto's advice...just be persistent, persistent, persistent. Call them every day until they get sick of hearing from you.

I hate to say this, but with all the stories posted lately about poor customer service from Apple and with my own experience of Apple screwing me out of nine months of Applecare that I paid for, I can't see how we as a Mac forum can continue to blindly cheer for Apple Computers anymore.

I certainly would like to sue the "heck" out of them but I don't have the knowhow or the money to follow through.

Maybe a class action lawsuit would wake them up to the fact that they are pissing off their base.

It is sad to feel this way after over twenty years of owning Macs sad smiley

Gene, we discussed your situation. Contact the CA Attorney General's office; you have more than enough solid documentation to support your case.

It is what it is.

Dan. I called the CA AG's office today but couldn't get through.

I've been so exhausted from lack of sleep that I have a problem following through on this.
