How do you all feel about this?
Posted by: iaJim

The poster(s) seems to think that this forum is occupied by a bunch of losers who have nothing to do but discus USB scales. I'm still pretty happy here.

You know this sort of happened at the Twentieth Anniversary Mac Forum I used to spend my time at. When things got pretty much smoothed out, there wasn't much to talk about any more. I think the Mac has, in general, gotten to be like this. When there are no problems to solve, there is little to say. The Mac is now such a dependable machine that most of us aren't having any real problems. Sure, there is the occasional ibook that lets us down, but you have to admit that things aren't like they were ten years ago when you needed the support just to manage or to have more fun.

I miss the old days, but I love the new OS.

I scan over the posts there a few times a week.
Futurecasts are the most redeeming feature, and Otto has some great advice on cameras and photography.
The name calling and bickering remind me of second grade, with html and photoshop thrown in the mix.
There are some intelligent people over there, but some that are borderline personalities.
Oddly, that is the only forum that I participate in that my nick is different than this one.

The best thing about AS is that the worst posters here are banned over there. As time passes, this forum is looking more and more like dealmac - for better AND worse.

Yeah whatever. Scales are funny to some of us, not funny to them. I am sure they have their inside stuff, every forum does. I can't understand half the stuff going on at fark sometimes it's almost all inside jokes and acronyms. UFIA anyone?

I think there is a critical mass here. We all need to work on making relevant Mac posts so that the google bot will learn to give us the love. Troubleshooting questions seem to be getting answered. Tips and deals are getting posted. Other discussions pop up as well.

Time will tell.

Which is worse, posting about the USB scale, or posting about people posting about a USB scale? BTW, I still don't own one. grinning smiley

My response: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Who cares what happens over there? The people over there, from what I can tell, are all nutjobs.

When a thread peters out into posting about posting it's time to start writing mac viruses. The heart of any truly useful forum is the posting of solutions to problems. If people aren't having sufficient problems then the solution is clear.

What was the question again?

Sounds like the crap people write about us over at DM. Careful of generalizations--they make you seem lame-brained. Like in this thread:

[forums.dealmac.com]

Quoting: "Most of the hard core nuts have abandoned this forum......welcome"

Although he might be referring only to the AS nuts, can't be sure.

I appreciate what I've seen here so far: Answers to Mac questions (which most of us need); Humor (which most of us need); Other stuff.
I like it.

jimbrady, the reason I made that comment is that AS is essentially an unmoderated forum (at least, it was the last time I was there). That means that people can act out with little or no repercussions, and so their worst natures end up coming out. I have no interest in reading some of the hate-filled spew that emanates from over there.

"The poster(s) seems to think that this forum is occupied by a bunch of losers who have nothing to do but discus USB scales"

Where's that thread say anything about a "bunch of losers"? (though the originator of this particular post might just be making a case for himself)

Kind of feels like most people can figure this out without directions, but for the few that can't, "If the shoe fits, wear it…" and if it doesn't, then "don't sweat it."

and yes, the continual USB scale postings do get a little old, and nowhere near as worth a laugh as the USB printer posts of yore and lore …

The whole USB scale thing was a flash back to junior high school (that's the same as middle school to all of you young whippersnappers).

It was stupid after about 3 or 4 posts & there was very little amusing to me about all of those who got such a big kick out of it.

There's not much to think about anyone at AS trashing this forum or the people on it.

It's easy to just ignore the USB scales posts. I did. Who cares, those that want to read them, goferit! Those that don't just glance over them. Use your brain's built-in 'ignore' function. Using a series of posts to negatively judge a forum seems pretty petty.

Damn you people need to lighten up. Who cares? If people got a kick out of talking about a damn scale so be it. Why anybody would judge another's sense of what is funny is beyond me. And then to comment on it as well as if you have a more highly developed sense of humor or something.

As if posting pictures of a pirate's penis doesn't?

For once, I actually agree with Baby Tats. (I cannot believe I just said that. Who would have thought!)

I'm sure everyone here has their own category of posts that they don't find particularly interesting or worth clicking on. Freebies, frog/snake posts, USB scale posts, birthday posts, RIP posts, etc. ... Nothing is FORCING you to click on a given post, and if you don't like the subjects, how about coming up with something of your own?

I, for one, am glad that bfd never created the pirate/usb-scale collage. Definitely too much information in that concept, although I will say that my stats have come up after a trip to the local piercing studio. I opted for the rugged outdoor look, featuring a locking carabiner with brake bar for rappelling (no more uncomfortable seat harnesses for me), while maintaining simple, one-handed exchange of accessory weights for competition purposes. Proper training is essential to avoid unfortunate separation accidents in distance events.

AppleSwitcher can get rough at times, I won't deny it. But first of all, I think it has mellowed somewhat. And more importantly, a lot of the topics people post there are very interesting and well worth reading, even if you don't want to enter into the conversation. I don't think a day goes by that I don't learn something new or find out about a good web site or follow an interesting link to someplace else. If you don't want to risk putting a toe in the water, you should at least try standing on the beach and having a real look around before you dismiss it.

I can't resist mentioning that it is a little lame to be irked at AS mocking MR, when there are people here who talk exactly the same about DM. So glass house, stones, right?

Not from what I've heard. But I'll have another look.

Oh wait. I just had a look... and the list of topics in the NON-padded room is still pretty scary...

And more importantly, a lot of the

Could be, but there seem to be a lot of nastiness interspersed in there.

I'll try again, but last time I was there, it was just scary... lots of stuff you wouldn't want your family seeing, for example.

I haven't talked trash about DM, only about the decisions they made, which I think didn't make sense, and made me very sad.

And I wouldn't say I'm irked at AS making fun of us... rather, I'm saying it's not worth our collective attention. Who cares what they say over there? (Same goes for DM too.) Actually, if anything, I find it curious that anyone over there would be commenting about over here... don't they have anything more interesting to discuss?

This thread may quite possibly end up serving as "proof of concept" for someone at sometime … as if anyone really cares.

Consider all of this as another throwaway comment in a throwaway thread on a backwater of the mighty internets.

How to end this discussion on discussing other forums?
"What a load of @#$%&".

Sounds like a good topic for a thread??????

Mongol General: Conan, what is best in life?

Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you,
and to hear the lamentation of the women!

Mongol General: That is good.
----------------------------------------

Its the lamenting of the women really max, isn't it?

You have to ask the Mongol General, but then again, he probably could not read your post ....
