As a background, it is the February 2008 model with the silver keys, not the most recent ones with the black keys and one piece body.

2.4 ghz, 2gb ram, 200 gig drive, 15.4 inch screen.

Getting it going took nothing more than unboxing it, plugging it in and turning it on.

- really fast (at least compared to my 2003 G5 Tower)

-screen is really nice

-battery charge lasts about 4 hours (was looking at PCs yesterday--Gateway/Sony/Dell--they all said about two hours of battery use)

-I love the silence! My B&W and my G5 are loud!

-set up my airport extreme base station yesterday and I had my password protected network up in about 15 minutes (NOTE TO MY NEIGHBORS--password protect your network!) Took my MacBook about 500ft from my base station and still had a very strong signal.

-took a little while to get used to the trackpad, but the multitouch trackpad, once you get the hang of it is great, especially how it allows you to rotate photos, pinch them, etc (sort of like the iPhone screen).

-the keyboard is another matter. Fat fingers are still getting used to the confined area of the keys

-love the backlit keys

-I like the iSight camera and Photo Booth. Video blogging here I come ; ) Too bad I don't have anyone to chat with using AV iChat. Like the built in microphone. First microphone I've had since the Plain Talk kind....

-already have closed the lid and hooked up my 24 inch monitor to it and plugged in my keyboard. Too bad there isn't a docking station.

-Also, having Mobile Me makes much more sense when you have a laptop. Syncing now makes sense.

-Have you tried Back to your Mac? Wow, it really works and comes in handy when I need a file from my desktop.

Congratulations! My 17" MBP is about 1 month old so, I understand your joy. The backlit keys are fantastic. I often use my MBP after dark. It's nice not to have to have lights on just to see the keyboard. I've never heard the fan (if there even is one!). It's battery life puts PC laptops to shame. When I have to use a PC laptop, I find myself trying to use keypad gestures. Really frustrating! I also love my matte screen which will probably no longer be available.

I got the glossy screen. To be honest, I only bought this MBP because Clubmac had it for $1299. All they had were glossy screens and I really didn't expect to like it.

So far I really like it. The lcd on this thing is absolutely beautiful. Not as nice as your 17 incher, but nice nonetheless.

Testcase, one thing I was wondering,why is there such a premium for Apple's laptops? Besides the OS, why are Apple's laptops so expensive? Considering everyone is now using Intel inside!

--battery life is one, but what else has Apple tweaked?

Don't be too thrilled about the battery life just yet. I took my MBP (early 2005 model, 2.5 Ghz) to the library yesterday afternoon and was shocked to find out that it only lasted 2.5 hrs!

IronMac, if you're using a lot of video/processing power and/or your system is constantly searching for an AP connection, you can expect battery life like that. You wrote that is is an '05 model, I suspect you meant to say early '08 model. My 2.4 MB is an early '08 model and I can expect about 2.5-3 hrs of batt life on it with heavy use. Word processing, very light browsing will get me closer to 3.5.

Grumpyguy, are you sure that your AR price was not $1349? That is what CM is showing for the model you listed. My aunt is getting a new MBP as well and is in this range. Just curious. [www.clubmac.com]

Yep, 2008 model. And no to both of the listed situations and the Internet connection was solid.

Oddly enough, I got close to FIVE hours while working away on a recent train ride but with no Internet connection.

Gg; Apple seems to use better components than PC makers. Especially screens. Sony does reasonably well re:screens but, their laptops aren't sold at bargain basement prices. My Pismo lasted almost eight years and, was running 10.4.11. A very viable OS. Try and find a Windows laptop that can be kept up to date that long.

What I really wonder about is, how does a Mac run Windows faster than a PC? As stated, Apples & PCs are now using Intel Core2Duo processors. What has Apple done to allow a MBP to beat a high end PC at its' own game?
