The McDouble has been on the dollar menu at most McDonald's since November.

Edit: Also, they are only just starting to advertise it. It's not going away.

I don't care for burgers from EITHER chain.

Gotta admit an addiction to McDonalds fries, and McGriddle breakfast sandwiches though... I'm pretty sure that the McGriddle will be listed on my death certificate as a proximal cause of death.
Fortunately, I've been able to resist them all but maybe once or twice a month.

I don't much care for Micky D's food either, but I have always been partial to the egg McMuffin, and about two or three times a year I eat a Filet o' Fish. I don't know why I like the fish sandwiches there, they are really pretty bad. I usually put a lot of salt on them, too. If you are going to be bad, be very bad, I guess. smiling smiley

a-ha! that is what I usually get at BK, and they are far superior. I know that comparing frozen things that are thrown in the microwave and then served to you is a bit moronic, but the BK fish samiches are really *much* better.

Last week I stopped at McDonald's for breakfast & had a gravy biscuit that was delicious! Somebody's grandma must have made the gravy that morning.

I do agree that the BK Big Fish is superior, and it is bigger, which might be a plus or a minus.

Though I swear them off, every once in a while I gotta have a Big Mac. Comfort food? Maybe. And I do like their simple little hamburgers.

And agree on the fries; I never eat fries except those times when I get the Big Mac craving.

I love McDonald's, but hate the McGriddles. They're just plain gross.

Not much of a BK fan- all their food tastes like it's been in the bin an hour longer than necessary, and the hamburger patties are always dry. This has been the case for every BK I've been to.

Their sausage croissants are not bad, but they don't compare to a fresh Sausage McMuffin with Egg.

Quality can very from individual store to store, but BK has been consistently disappointing.

Must be a regional thing. The McDouble has always be a dollar menu item around here. But just about all of the chains here have a dollar menu of some sort so it's probably a matter of competitive survival.

The Chain Burger Top 10
1. In and Out Burger
2. Carl's Jr.
3. Fatburger
4. Wendy's
5. Jack in the Box (Top honors for breakfast)
6. Burger King
7. McDonalds

I've never tried these, but I'm curious.
8. Sonic
9. Dairy Queen

Honorable Mention for a Childhood Favorite
10. Foster Freeze

In this area the McDouble replaced the Double cheeseburger on the Dollar menu a month or two ago, possibly longer ago. The owner cited increasing costs of the items that went into it as the reason. But it was at about the same time he closed his two stores a day or two each here for installation of the new MacLatte bars. So the ad campaigns were oriented towards that. As far as I understand it, the change is supposed to be permanent, or until prices/costs go up yet again. Even the store in Maine in the kids' mothers town already had the McDouble on its $1 menu when I was up there at Christmas time.

Edit: P.S. The minimum wage here in Mass. is $8 an hour, so we would be on of the states with higher labor costs. That might also be part of the difference. The son working at McD's was told it was supposed to be a national change eventually, but might be at the discretion of individual franchisees.

If only it came without any 'cheese' if that's what they call it.

It is just standard american processed cheese slices, no better or worse than the rest of that kind of cheese. You can still order the double burgers without it, just no decrease in price in the system for getting it that way. Not like the days past when McD's still advertised both the Quarter Pounder and the QP with cheese and there was a price difference.
