Discontinued movies on Amz. Forcing us to Blu Ray?

I have noticed so many viable movies on DVD being "discontinued by the Manufacturer" Are we going to be forced into expensive Blu Ray or is this just a coincidence?

I am on the movie lists constantly because of buying for a library so it isn't that I'm just noticing. In the past there have been some discontinued but nothing like I'm seeing now.

Are these "Discontinued" movies only available in BluRay?
Or just "Discontinued"?
List please.

It's just a coincidence. I don't think we even need more info to answer it, BGnR. I'm not saying this to knock Blu-Ray (I'm a supporter), but there is absolutely no reason for manufacturers to discontinue DVDs in favor of it.

I think it's just the economy. DVDs go out of production pretty often. Less profitable titles aren't worth the licensing costs so they get sidelined.

When they think there's enough interest, the DVD will be re-released. If it's a classic, eventually Criterion will get around to it.

Meanwhile, you can check the bins at Wal-Mart and cruise eBay for those discontinued DVDs. When a DVD is discontinued, there's usually stock that they are no longer allowed to sell through normal channels that ends up getting dumped via gray-market liquidators.

I was asking SamInTx, but as usual, she won't answer.
It's her usual, "The Sky Is Falling!!" post.
BTW, BluRay is dead.
