I'm trying to decide between the WD Caviar Green & the Seagate 'Cuda 7200.11.
These would be added storage for my dual Xeon, mostly for VHS transfers until I have time to edit for DVD.
I've had bad luck w/Hitachi and since I don't know anyones experience with the Samsungs, they're out.

I would not buy a Seagate until they get the firmware problem fixed for sure.

Is the firmware problem for any 1TB Seagate drives? I thought it was just for the 1.5TB Seagate hard drives...

I'm not trusting the Seagates now, either. I've been buying mostly WD drives lately and they've all been good for me. (Seven or eight years ago I would have thought I'd gone crazy if I'd considered that!)

The current WD Green models are surprisingly fast, but you may consider the 7200RPM model if you want some more speed. It might run you $20-30 more than then Green ones.

After some bad experiences with a couple Samsung drives, I recently got a 1TB WD Green (WD10EADS, the newest model). I would definitely give it thumbsup smiley thumbsup smiley.

I just picked up a Seagate 1TB Barracuda, ST31000333AS. It was my first SATA internal OEM. I didn't know it didn't come with a SATA cable. Seems to be working just fine.
