Is there a better deal than this?

So there's a Seagate FreeAgent 1 TB external USB/FW400/E-SATA drive for $132:

I'm thinking of buying 2 so that I can have a rotating off site (out of my house, that is) backup.

Is there a better deal on an external drive of 1 TB or more that will be both FW400 compatible (which is the fastest my current machine can handle) and USB2 or E-SATA compatible (for future machines)? I'm not sure I'd need FW800 since Apple may not put it on whatever I buy next.

I am perfectly comfortable with building my own, but didn't know if there were any cheap cases to be had that can do three flavors.

I'd also prefer a quiet drive--no fan, maybe? I PM'd 2 people from the forum who said they have the above drive, and they say it's fan-less.

Frys has the same drive for $130 (limit one per customer) with free shipping, but other than that, I haven't seen a better deal.

if its just for backup why bother with FW?

ive seen 1.5TB USB 2s for the same price -- and of course 1 TBs are $90 if you get USB 2 only

FW800 is cross compatible with FW400

My MDD 867 is only capable of firewire 400 or USB 1.

I'd want FW 400 for its speed for now (wouldn't want to have to wait an eternity to copy a 1 Gig movie file). But i'd like USB2 for a future Mac purchase compatibility.

You could always throw in a cheap USB2 card if you have a spare pci slot and then go with the cheaper USB drive.

As long as you never want that MDD to go to sleep ever again.

I have a USB2 card in my MDD and it sleeps as long as I detach accessories from the card before sleep. I can leave the cable plugged in, just unplug it from the accessory (as in the case of an external drive after dismounting) Inconvenient, but do-able if you really need USB-2..

That was my point. If you are using the drives for back-up you only plug them in when you need them and sleep is a non-issue. I have been using a usb2 card on my old G4 in this manner for years with no sleep issues.
