MacBook Video Flicker Arghh

Why did I not buy AppleCare on this machine?

It had a video flicker issue along with an HD meltdown that resulted in many parts being replaced after 2 Apple repairs last May and last June.

The video flicker is back. Apple warranty on repairs is 90 days. Yes?

Damn, damn, damn.

Yep, 90 days. The video flicker is commonly a logic board problem.

Which model is prone to this problem?

I'm not sure that any of them are particularly prone to the problem. It isn't like the GPU chip in the iBook G3 where it is a matter of when, not if. But those symptoms usually end up being the logic board. Could also be the cable or LCD panel.

'Cuz you're a rotten gambler? After having that much work done on a machine, not buying AppleCare is just a bad bad bet. The time to go without health insurance isn't after you've had major surgery.

This work was done under warrantly? If not, how much did this cost?

Does it flicker with an external monitor? If not, it's probably the LCD or LCD cable.

I have the flicker on my MacBook (no AC—work owned and they didn't buy the AC) and one way I control it is that it rarely is ever flickers on lower backlight settings. In my office environment, it's set at 10/16 brightness and it doesn't flicker at all. If you're moving your MBook, maybe the flicker happens more but in it's stationary office location, I'm pretty much flicker-free.
