Crippled my iPod

Last night I finally got around to replacing the battery in my 4G iPod. The cover is nowhere near as easy to remove as the 2G iPod I used to have, but I did finally manage to get it off. The battery simply would not come out & I didn't want to have to pry against the circuit board, so I got a Torx bit & removed the screws holding the board in place, lifted it up, then pried the battery out. WAY too much glue was used to hold that thing in place. The new battery went in okay, I put it all back together & it wouldn't come on.

I connected it to the Sawtooth & the iPod updated & the indicator showed the battery fully charged, which I didn't believe for a minute. I disconnected it & nothing happened; it wouldn't turn on. I put it in the dock connected to my stereo & it showed the battery was charging & it played music. It doesn't work on its on, only when connected to the dock or computer.

What have I done to my iPod?

I've seen some responses from OWC Jamie? on similar situations. Maybe give a "Holla" to him/her?

I have no idea why you wouldn't have watched the vids on the OWC site first. There would have been no surprises, including the need for torx action and the heavy, heavy adhesive.
Check out that vid for the warnings and see if that gives you any clues as to where you might have gone wrong.

I suffer from the same sensitivity that you do. A few nuggets of wisdom were shared with me and I'm "trying" to incorporate them into my life. First, remember that nobody can hurt your feelings unless you let them. You can always reject what is being forced on you emotionally.
Second, nothing changes unless you change it. If you don't want the behavior to be repeated then you need to take action. Otherwise the kid has learned that his behavior is the way to get things done, because everyone lets him get away with it.
In the meantime I sympathize because I've been there.

OWC Jamie does it with his eyes closed. Where your eyes open? If so, maybe that was the problem.

Sounds like something is not plugged in. I assume you didn't rip any cables, and all are still fully attached?

Do you hear or feel the hard drive turn on when pressing a button on the iPod?

You certain that the audio cable is still attached, since that controls the hold function (if it's stuck on hold, can't turn on).

I like a challenge - but I won't try a 4G ipod with my eyes closed, the glue is too hard to get broken free on the battery. :>)

Good Luck!

h': What makes you think I didn't read & watch everything available before attempting such a task?

As far as I know, nothing got broken or disconnected inside.
I'll give it another try this evening to see if I can get it going again.
