Funny looking screen on eMac ....

G4 eMac 1ghz was shut down for 3 days. When I turned it on I saw a strange multi color grid pattern (sort of like a woven linen) instead of the normal blue desktop screen.

I could barely make out the desktop items under the linen pattern. It was very fine colored lines.

Any ideas?? When I turned the computer off and then turned it back on it was back to normal.

CRT may be getting tired.

I think I will just put an OUT OF ORDER
sticker on my head and call it a day.

There have been problems with some eMacs - reportedly deleting some ATI drivers will temporarily fix it.

Looks like long term it is bad caps.

Is this the 2nd gen eMac or the third. The third seems to have bad capacitor problems (like many other products made around the same time).

I was hoping my 2nd 800MHz unit was made before the bad cap scandal.

I think ADent may be on the right track.

How do I know which generation my eMac was made?

eMac 1 ghz with 60 gig hard drive (originally) combo drive

It is still under apple care - I believe it was the last group made that ran classic
