Blank InDesign CS2 Page = 744 KB?

I decided to make changes to simple InDesign CS2 document I have. It has an EPS logo (B&W) and text on the page. When I exported it to PDF, I noticed it was a considerably larger file than the earlier version. I did a "save as" on the InDesign file to see if it would reduce it but it didn't trim it down much in size. I decided to recreate the file to see if I could get it smaller. I opened a blank document and then, just to see what would happen, I saved it without putting anything on the page. The file is 744 KB!

Anyone know why I would get such a large file from a blank page?

Michael

A blank page is not without properties.
It has plenty of attributes that InDesign needs to know about.
What's the height? the width? the number of defined styles? (defaults), the colors? etc, etc.
ID keeps track of all that data in the file.

744KB is not that big these days.

Wow, the original file (several generations ago) was made in PageMaker and it was only 445 KB with the logo and text on it!

Oh well, I guess I just haven't paid attention to that before.

Thanks,
Michael

You're complaining about file-bloat from an Adobe app?

Where have you been the last 13 years?

Logos are generally only linked and not embedded, so it wouldn't take up space in the ID or PM file.
Regardless, even if it were embedded, if it is a vector logo, then it would not be that large, as Postscript can be a very efficient language and vector art tends to be smallish.

Also, older files tend to have less meta data embedded in them.
