I believe it's free if you choose to stick with the old version, but don't quote me on that.

I think it's an outstanding deal. There's a huge amount of new functionality with the new OS.

But they don't charge iPhone users for the upgrade and I paid more for my 'Touch (I bought over $1000 dollars worth of those). But whatever, I'll pay for it. I'm Apple's bitch. Watch my mother be aware of the upgrade somehow want it.

There probably won't be a new iPod touch until after the education "get one free" offer expires. Shortly thereafter there should be an update...

The touch is where it is at. Not the girly phone. smiling smiley
I think $10 is acceptable.

You don't know how much the iPhone really costs, do you?

No you didn't. An iPhone costs the original downpayment ($199/$299) + the financed portion that is hidden in the service fee (about $200-300), not to mention that AT&T makes all that money off your outrageously priced service fees. Two-year cost of an iPhone...typically $2,000.

I do not understand how people happily pay for a new version of OS X, but when a major new release of the iPod Touch OS comes out $10 or $20 is a lot of money. Makes no sense to me at all.

For Apple, AT&T or for the customer? I couldn't tell you except for the customer. I'm aware of subsidies and plan costs but really, is there a difference that $10 dollars solves?

That goes two ways, If it's not a lot of money, then why charge it?

To pay the employees who developed the software, etc.

Oh, and to make sure that AAPL shareholders get a little cut of the action.

Yeah, they'd be broke otherwise unless they can nickle and dime.

Your Touch will work fine without it.

If $10 is too much, then don't buy it.

I think I've paid for two of these upgrade charges.
Really, for the value you get, it's one of the least annoying fees I've ever chosen to pay.

Wow, now you're complaining that it doesn't cost enough. Unbelievable! Would you be happier if they charged you $50?
