Oh I had a tough brewday this weekend. It all began when I was making my starter in the kitchen. Everything was going great until i opened a
bottle of wlp001 which I had previously harvested from a primary. When I
popped off the cap the yeast shot about 3ft into the air and got onto
the windows, all over the kitchen counter, microwave, etc. Luckily I had
an extra wlp001 in the fridge so this was merely a mess to clean up and
a setback in my timeline for the brewday. But then it gets better...
I had carefully measured all my ingredients, mapped out my mash temps,
and followed everything to the T. Then it came time to cool the wort
down. I use a large cooling coil and it has served me faithfully until
this day. When the water turned on the water level in the keg began to
rise (you see where this is going?) and quickly spilled over the top! I
turned off the water pulled out the coil, and found a rip about 1/2 inch
long in the copper.

So what to do? I hate to lose an entire batch of beer but this is
certainly not a good! I drained off about a gallon to give me some room,
brought it back up to a boil and kept it there until the level dropped
to 9 gallons. I would like to have taken it town to 7 gallons but it was
already 9:30. Then I hosed down the outside of the keg to cool it as
much as possible, then dropped the whole thing into a large plastic
container of water. Lastly, I drained into carboys and placed them in
the freezer. This morning they were about 40 degrees. I'll let them warm
up to about 60 and then pitch my yeast.

I highly doubt this will be my best beer ever, but I'm hoping it will
still be good enough to call "lawnmower beer". Feel free to give a laugh!
