I know some services do and some don't. Some claim that you can, etc. So let's hear your experience...

Using VoIP to fax is never going to be very effective because the data has to be compressed, translated, and transmitted all over creation to get from point A to point B then it all has to be undone at the other end. VoIP is not well suited for this use. You're better off running a plain copper PSTN line into the modem on your computer, or into your fax machine if you have one. I've been trying to get faxing to work with my Asterisk server for a long time and it just doesn't work well unless you use regular phone lines. The beauty of using the Asterisk PBX to pick up faxes is that it will automatically email your faxes to you as a PDF. That is a cool feature. If you don't have a regular phone line, you could try out www.freedigits.com. They provide a fax number that you can use which will recieve faxes for you and email them to you. You can also email faxes to them them as email attachments and they will send it on as a fax.

I gave up on faxing even though I have a new gift Brother Laserfax in the trunk of my car. Scan plus email works for me. Better quality. Box of fax too heavy to lug to basement.

I lucked out an snuck in on the Buy 1 get 1 year free for $199 deal last weekend.
I would have posted the deal from fatwallet here---but I saw it late and actually got shot down, and had to jump through some CSR hoops the next day to get it honored.

I'm using Iconnecthere.com and faxing is not a problem.

I fax (outgoing) about once a week on Vonage. No complaints. Probably receive an inbound fax once every couple of months as well.
