Since the cost of gas is going up... I measured the Honda yesterday, 40.01 average city/highway. I've been coasting a lot lately.

Interesting, one can vote multiple times.

My only car gets and average of about 17mpg. But it's not used for commuting.

20-30 depending on which car I take. Double that if you consider I am commuting with my wife to the same location. Infinity if I bike which is about once a week.

Hmmm - you left a gap between 15 mpg and 20 mpg.

My truck straddle 20 mpg - 18 to 19 mpg local and 21 to 22 mpg on the road - 6 cylinder w/ 5 speed manual tranny.
It also has the tow package so 1st speed is nearly a granny gear.

The next and possibly more relevant question would be how many miles per day / month you drive.
I can go for days without leaving the house or maybe just a few miles down the road to the grocery or hardware.
A tank of gas can last easily over a month.

Then I can also go where I may drive hundreds of miles in a day (I'll do a hundred miles round trip
later today, to do a photo shoot out of town) Current truck is a 1999 Ranger but it only has 82K on it.

My brother-in-law got a Ford Escape (company car) in late January and it already has 35K on it but he is
getting about 30mpg on the road with 6 cylinder and 6 speed automatic.

I figure 15 + included 16, 17, 18 and 19
I get between 17 and 23
4WD in the Winter and AC in the Summer take it down a notch from 18/19 most of the time.
Not bad for a small truck V6 4WD TRD

24-26 mpg, mostly around town driving in the Escort.

12-13 mpg in the station wagon around town, which improves dramatically to 22-23 mpg on trips.

14mpg in town, 18mpg highway. What do I get for it? A truck bed, 4WD, 4 doors and a V8. Everything I want in one package. The proper metric is mpg X miles driven, though. I don't drive that much.

Yeah, it's not all about MPG is it? For many driving is a form of entertainment. People use cars like mine for taking to the track, off roading, pulling trailers, boats, other cars... hauling their family around.

Stock my car does 0-60 in 6.9. Some have modded them to get upwards of 465 whp - and that's on a awd car.

25.5mpg highway

I just experimented with speed-related mpg and it seems to make absolutely no difference.

I drive a 6-cylinder Volvo wagon.

So get back to work and sweat some more
The sun will sink, and we'll get out the door
It's no good for man to work in cages
Hits the town, he drinks his wages
You're frettin', you're sweatin'
But did you notice you ain't gettin'?

18 in my 26 year old *4* cylinder Volvo 245. City driving exclusively.
~16 in the 2007 Odyssey. City driving exclusively.

Both do 26 on the hwy but Mrs. Z & I bought close to work (3.5mi) and carpool 4-5d/week so I'll bet our gallons/week are lower than the vast majority.

Infinite on my bike, 60mpg on my '85 Honda Rebel 250cc, 17mpg in my truck which has been refueled twice this year, 25mpg in my '66 Corvair, and 28 in my wife's '99 Camry (which is a POS that is annoyingly reliable. I hate this car, but it won't die).

I'm lucky to sniff 20mpg on either of my turbo cars (especially considering the way I drive).

Do I wish they got better mileage? Of course, but...

24.4 MPG combined city/hwy in my 2008 Mazda3.

Wish it was better, but it's an improvement over my 1998 Jeep Cherokee (which I loved and miss terribly) that got 15-16 MPG combined city/hwy.

Average 45 city driving, 55 highway. 2005 VW jetta diesel. Love it!!
I got a whopping 8mpg when I filled up my big rig today! I haven't needed the air on the last couple of moving days. I usually get about 6mpg.

34mpg all around average in a Nissan Sentra (automatic).

But I don't gun it and I keep the MPG reading up all the time as an incentive.

One of my friend's dad had two Newports. Perfectly, obsessively maintained. Of course, we all had mopars living in a mopar town. All my friends drove challengers, daytonas, slap stick this, draw string that, 6 bbl here, pistol grip there. But the newports were monsters.

I could hear my friend's Coronet with just headers start up in town, and we lived out of town, a mile or two. Louder than all get out.

I on the other hand was from a minority GM family. My first car was a 442.

My old room mate's dad built the original one back in '67. It will drive with either front or rear engine running, or both. 12 seconds flat in heavy Seattle rain with the tires spinning through all 3 gears. It still races every few years in Vancouver BC where it resides. Hurst built one as well. He did his on his own.

That's the Grant car. Some old Hot Rod articles on that one.

I was just teasing MAVIC about all wheel drive, and only 465 horses

Gotta LOVE the Chevrolet Corvette! (especially the 1997-2004)
I played a gig in New Orleans Tuesday night. Loaded up two guitars, an amp, pedal board and cable bag in the back. Johnny and I filled up the tank for about $45 and hit the road.
Roughly an hour's drive at 80 mph and we averaged 32mpg.

(marvels of a 6 speed)

Another trip from Jackson to Natchez, MS on the Natchez Trace gave me 38.8 mpg on that stretch of road. 6th gear, 51mph, barely turning 900rpm. Probably not good on your transmission to do this daily, but it was a neat experiment.
