pre-press question/RGB or CMYK?

I've got rgb images. Need to place them into ID, create a pdf and send it to the printer.
Any reason to convert to cmyk before I place the images and generate the pdf, as opposed to just letting ID/acrobat, convert to cmyk as the file is exported?

thanks

Do you need CMYK for that job?

What specifications did the output service give you?

Yeah, work backwards from the final output and be sure to cross all the t's and dot all the i's.

Most med to large printers have a web site that lists all the specifications.

If you are ever in doubt pay a little extra to have it flight checked.

The best check is to have a service bureau output B&W postscript laser separations made and have them checked by an experienced person.

Best!

You'll have more control over the conversion if you do it beforehand.

Depending on how it's printing, you may not need to convert to CMYK at all. Call your printer.
