This'll be very interesting, geographically located, they are both in the same town.

It'll be nice driving down the highway and seeing seagate logos instead of maxtor logos.

So will Maxtor get better, or Seagate worse?

Good question, mr. blooz.

I like Seagate because of the 5yr warranty. I don't know that the drives are built any better than Maxtor's.

I wonder how this will affect those who hate Maxtor.

Maxtor may become the "budget" line of Seagate and retain the one year warranty (didn't they use to have three year warranties) but I'd like to see it fully assimilated.

Although a five year warranty is nice, getting a refurb as a replacement doesn't make me feel giddy.
