I heard she had Pop-rocks & Pepsi right before the ride.

Seems weird that she died later in the hospital. I wonder what the cause of death was. Did the ride cause damage that was undetected? Or was she in critical condition the whole time?

I think it's just a big centrifuge, and that's what makes a few people sick.

She died at the hosptial because no one dies at Disney World. Seriously, even is she did die in the park they wouldn't declare her dead until they left the park. It's been company policy since day one.

Florida's largest amusement parks, including Walt Disney World, are exempt from state regulations that require mandatory reporting of injuries .

Who the hell would go on a ride with all those disclaimers?

"Real astronauts often experience motion sickness during space travel".

"Real astronauts" have physicals before they start flinging them around in space. Are the guests at Disney World given physicals?

I think rides like this are absurd, frankly. I wouldn't go on any ride with the potential to make the person next to me vomit all over me, for crying out loud.

Depends on if there is a doctor there who isn't on the staff, to pronounce, or if there is an obvious sign of dead, such as decapitation.

The exemptions do not preclude the parks from being the location of where the death occurred.

If someone was thrown a hundred feet and crushed on impact, they would not have died "at the hospital", except maybe in a Disney press release.

I recall that ride- my daughter and I got on, only to find that someone had puked all over the floor where we were sitting. OTOH, we got to ride it twice !

Not for the weak stomached or hearted, alas.

And who would ride that with all those restrictions ? Huh, c'mon. It's like waving a red flag in front of a bull. Or, for that matter, telling someone they have to READ all the legalese on the screen before you click "Agree". Do you read it all ? I don't...

My girl and I went on that Missionpace ride last year. We waited for about an hour to get in, even with FastPass(?). It WAS pretty intense. We both got a bit woozy during the ride. Factor in the heat and 99% Florida humidity and it pretty much killed the day for us. We went back to the hotel to relax for a bit before heading out again at night.

Most new-ish rides at Disney all have these warning signs. Tower of Terror, Aerosmith Rollercoaster, Crash Test Dummies ride,,, even the Buzz Lightyear ride has warnings.

From the article it says the first death was a 4 year old boy. That's just insane. What parent in their right mind would put a 4 year old boy through that. With all the warning signs... I'm surprised the workers even allowed it. They have to strap you into an adult sized seat. Did they give the 4 year old a booster chair? After they strap you in there's an enclosure that closes on top of you. It's pitch black. It feels like you are strapped into a coffin. That kid must've been terrified. And because you are sharing the ride with 3 other people. There's no way to stop the ride if you are dizzy or feeling pain. You just gotta grab a vomit bag and hold on.

It sounds like a case of a parent wanting to go on the ride themselves, but there is no place to leave the 4 year old kid while the parents have fun. So they drag the kid along for the ride...

More importantly:

Is the ride going to reopen in time for my Trip to Disney World in mid May???

Disney's been making this move for years; switching from the elaborate visual rides (Pirates, Haunted Mansion, etc.) to the virtual rides (Star Wars, Mission Space, etc.). It's part of the cost-cutting procedures put in place by Eisner's cronies at the parks.

Arguably, kids don't enjoy the visual rides as much; it's all old technology and not as impressive. Think Jetsons or even James Bond -- the gadgetry just doesn't impress.

But I still don't have a flying car.

POTC is closed for updating till summer, They are cross-promoting the new Pirates movie release this summer, adding a Jack Sparrow character (animatronic) & similar modern updates.

Its all about cross promotion & product placement.

Give me the old rides anyday. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride would be a
nice comeback. How about the Penny Arcade on Main St. that
would be nice. Now every ride has to have a junk shop at the
exit so they can try and sell you some crap. Disney was much
better 15-20 yeaars ago. They even removed the Skyway cable
car thing, what's next the Teacups, It's A Small World.....?

I was depressed when I found out America Sings is gone (has been for quite awhile). I wish I could at least get a video of it. The good news is that the characters have been relocated to other points in the park.

That was the only ride I got naseous on last year and I would never get on it again. Give me the Rockin' Roller Coaster any day.

My son and I went on it a couple of times when it first opened about four years ago and again two more times last year. And I'm not exactly a picture of good health. I thought about it before deciding to do it, but I figured the worst that could happen is that I'd get sick.

There are disclaimers all over the place and if you don't read them, you deserve to get sick. You have several opportunities to bail out before the "ride" and one last chance before you enter the centrifuge. Finally, they make it very clear on several occasions to keep focused straight ahead. Do not look sideways, etc., just focus on the screen for the duration.

It is a rather intense experience, but if you follow the instructions, it is like nothing else you'll experience, (short of actual space flight, I assume). That said, and largely because of all that, people tend to either love it or hate it.
