gotprint.net - a trouble-free printing experience

Just received a package today from gotprint.net. I ordered 500 postcards a little under 2 weeks ago. Arrived even more quickly than they had advertised. I had placed the order 2 weeks ago friday night, they had a proof online for me to approve saturday afternoon, and they were shipped out a week later via UPS ground.

These postcards are better quality than any I've had done before here locally, they use better paper stock, and were a good bit cheaper, even with shipping included. Their website and order status wasn't incredibly high-tech, and they didn't over-communicate with me or anything. They just delivered on time (actually a couple of days early), for a fair price, and did a good job with the product.

It's pleasant to find a new company like this that actually does what they promise for a very fair price. They have just earned a repeat customer.

I'll even send you one of the postcards if you want to see for yourself smiling smiley

And I'm hoping their customer service is pretty good, too. I just had to return 100 postcards I had done because before I ordered I had asked if I'd be able to print on the back with my inkjet printer and was told I could. Then a few days later I was informed that it probably wouldn't work. Turns out they were right. Unfortunately, the order was already being printed. The good news is that they'll refund my full price, including shipping. The bad news is that I still had to pay to send them back (that doesn't surprise me) and that I should allow 10 to 15 business days to receive my refund (that surprises me, although it probably shouldn't). Funny how charges go through immediately, but refunds just take so much processing time. rolleyes smiley

I will say that the postcards themselves came out looking quite nice.

What's a postcard?

I think I used them a while back. They completely reamed us on the shipping costs. We were paying about 5-10 times what it would have cost for our company to ship to them. I realize not all things are equal but there shouldn't have been THAT much disparity.

Interesting. Shipping costs in my order were calculated right up front so I wasn't surprised at all. Have they changed their setup since then?

I knew what the shipping costs where. But they had the best prices. It just seemed so...ebayish. Where someone only charges you $100 for a $600 item than charges you $500 for shipping.

Not sure if they've changed or not. its been a couple years since. I stopped using them after a couple orders. Best price or not, i didn't like the idea of paying that much for shipping when it was such an obvious rip-off.

we primarily use(d) overnightprints. we used 48hourprints as well for something. we tried vistaprint, but they were a bunch of knuckleheads. there were a couple one-timers we used but I cannot remember their names.

I've used psprint and overnight prints. PS print smokes overnight prints. A friend of mine has used ps print and gotprint. He said quality is about the same (though he's not an expert like you and I) but he said the vendor pricing for gotprint is a lot better than psprint.

I used overnight prints until they kept failing at color. I've used psprint since.

I did several jobs this fall with printplace.com and was very impressed with their customer service, as well as the price and quality. A couple of them were 24-hour turnaround on 24-page 4-color catalogs.

I like those mini cards from MOO jdc, thanks for the link.

has anyone used Imagers, the wife and I had our business cards printed with them and liked them enough to consider having some postcards done too.
They were very helpful with questions asked, sent proof sheets before the job, and after we made changes too. We weren't in a hurry to rush the job so we didn't pay to have the order completed and shipped quicker, but we ended up getting the order before it was expected.

*edit: seems they are having a special on postcards now too

The Taoist Zhuangzi said, "Good order results spontaneously when things are let alone".
The sociologist, and historian, Adam Ferguson described the phenomenon of spontaneous order in society as the "result of human action, but not the execution of any human design".

Any recommendations for a printer to do perfect bound books, in runs of 400 to 500 books?

Do a lot of work with them for single cheap printing jobs, but cannot trust my larger multiple orders or anything that requires attention. Do more than a few thousand dollars a month with them, but get no preferential treatment or customer service outside the fairly large bureaucracy of non-empowered 1st tier and apologetic (and also unempowered) supervisors. Orders I've done have been routinely mishandled requiring a lot of extra time on my part to make sure the job got out - forget doing anything time-sensitive with their mailing service. I tried one mailing for a large franchise I handle and they dropped the ball all the way. Took 2 weeks after printing to get cards in the mail.

Never again. Bottom line, they're cheap and not particularly open to changing their ways.

Use them for cheap & dirty (though quality is good) but watch the process the whole way if your clients are depending in it.
