iPod "disconnects" on its own

Hi,

I have a 2nd Gen. iPod connected to a swivel LCD style iMac. When I connect it, it shows up in iTunes and I can play back songs on it, etc. (it's probably worth mentioning that I don't "manage" the songs on this iMac, so I can only play songs off of the iPod--they aren't actually in the iTunes library). I've noticed that when my computer goes to sleep, the iPod "disappears" from the desktop and from iTunes. It seems to reappear after a couple seconds of awake time, but is this normal?

Can't you change the settings in System Preferences>Energy Saver to stop sleeping.

If you want to do it lid closed, here's a specialized sleep program.

I checked Energy Saver, and I can change the sleep settings, but not for an individual hard drive. I don't really want to keep it from sleeping, I just didn't think that the iPod should be disappearing/unmounting just because the computer goes to sleep. Maybe I'm wrong. It's no big deal either way.

Thanks, though.
