Whoo Hoo! Got my eSATA express card for my MBP. FAST!

I copied a 45GB file in 10 minutes while a USB copy of the same file to the same drive took 30 minutes. Actually, it's still copying via USB as I write this - nearly done though! Now I can make good use of several eSATA/USB external drives that have been under utilized. I should have bought it a year ago.

Wow, that's fast for $29. And it seems to have a Snow Leopard driver.I was under the impression the cheap ones used the ExpressCard slot's USB bus, but apparently this one doesn't.

I'd be curious to know what chipset System Profiler reports --might come in handy if/when Rosewill stops offering updated drivers ...

This makes me want to get one and ditch my little FW800 enclosure for a cheap eSATA enclosure.

I'm at 10.6.2 and the driver (on included CD) supplied with the card was all I needed. I did some web checking before I bought it and the consensus was it was as good as any and better than most. Here's what shows up in system profile under PCI Cards:

ExpressCard:

Type: Other Mass Storage Controller
Driver Installed: Yes
Bus: PCI
Slot: PCI Slot 3
Vendor ID: 0x1095
Device ID: 0x3132
Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x1095
Subsystem ID: 0x3132
Revision ID: 0x0001
Link Width: x1
Link Speed: 2.5 GT/s

The external drive appears under the Parallel SCSI Device Tree

Capacity: 500.11 GB (500,107,862,016 bytes)
Manufacturer: WDC WD50
Model: 00AAKS-00TMA0
Revision: 12.0
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: No
BSD Name: disk1
SCSI Logical Unit Identifier: 0
Partition Map Type: GPT (GUID Partition Table)
S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported
Volumes:
465GB:
Capacity: 499.76 GB (499,763,888,128 bytes)
Available: 409.28 GB (409,275,289,600 bytes)
Writable: Yes
File System: Journaled HFS+
BSD Name: disk1s2
Mount Point: /Volumes/465GB

Edited to correct drive info.
