San Fran -> NYC -> Work = bad idea?

heading out to the west coast for the holidays. i'm contemplating an overnight flight that would get me into La Guardia at 7:45am. i'd go straight to work.

i've never tried this sort of thing before. is it a good idea or a bad idea?

Bad idea,

It is what it is.

Bad idea generally: you'll be tired for a couple of days. Exactly how bad it is depends on how old you are, how quickly you recover from sleep deprivation, and whether you have anything demanding waiting for you at work.

I've done it and believe me, it's a bad idea. If you can go to work and leave when you hit the wall, it might be OK, but if you are locked in for a full day, good luck.

baaad idea. Are you younger than 40 ? Then you can probably handle it, but you'll feel 'hung over' for a couple of days, and your work performance will suck.

Given the stable weather of the area (especially in the Winter) , nothing could possibly go wrong.

Travel across time zones affect some people more than others.

Is it a Non-Stop? What airline? Most of the non-stop flights that I've seen between those two cities have only been SFO->JFK.

If it's going to stop someplace, even if you do manage to fall asleep, it won't be for very long.

I've flown the red-eye from SFO-JFK and then went straight to work.

It sucked, but I was 29 years old.

A good night's sleep after you clock in your 9-to-5 should do the trick.

Hey, you're on VACATION. Don't stress yourself out coming back. You should be able to breeze into work all cool, calm, and collected and sigh... it was great !!!

(The goal, of course, is to enhance stress and jealousy in your colleagues. big grin smiley)

I've done this alot. Doesn't usually bother me.
Only the nag of dragging my luggage along.
Cuppa decent coffee will get me thru if I need to.
Jet lag normally doesn't get me until a 5 hour clock gap, especially in reverse.

Couple years ago, flew HCMC to JFK in 2 legs over 24 hours or so and surprised myself at feeling perfectly fine and experiencing no lag. Right amount of sleep and red wine I guess.
Wouldn't make a habit of that.
I think there is some degree of "mental hype" involved.
I have friends who go the Ambian route. That 5h1te doesn't do me any good at all.
I'm long past 29.

When I travel to the east coast like this, my biggest problem is getting to sleep at night for the first few days.
