Where can I find a piece of textured sheet metal for photography?

I used to be able to find sheets of textured metal covering in home improvement centers or Pearl like this:

Can't seem to find them now. Does anyone know where I could purchase this type of irregular texture in maybe a 36"x36" sheet? The online small quantity sheet metal places only seem to have regular patterned stuff. I need it to match for product shots I will have to take.

TIA

They make textured spray like that now at the Home Improvement stores.

Does it have to be metal? Is there a specific color?

You could go with a suspended ceiling tile, which should be available at home improvement places, in 2'x2' or 2'x4' panels, and in a variety of textures...

Home improvement stores might also have lay-in tin panels which would be available in patterns, colors, or textures as well.

can you shoot the photos on green/blue (chroma key) and then add a photo of the sheet metal in photoshop? Or will that look hokey with the way your setting up your shot?

just get a piece of sheet metal and let some kids go to town on it with the round tip side of a hammer.

I've scavenged junk-yards and such for really cool background pieces.

Looks like it's hammered aluminum (?)

Check the yellow pages for an industrial or decorative metal supplier

Odds are you probably have a sheet metal shop or three in your area. Maybe they could line you up with something.

Thanks guys. Yeah, it needs to be the actual sheet. I think it is aluminum as lafinfil says. It used to be very easy to find some years ago. I am going to have to match product shots in a catalog. All older products were shot on it in the UK. I will have to insert new product pages that match the catalog.

I'm hoping not to photoshop the products in as there are variations in the shots and some secondary shots that focus on specific features. I'm going to hit the home stores again and also metal shops as lafinfil and and S.Taylor suggested.

How big are the products or how big does the backgrond need to be ?

Could you scan a section from an existing shot and then clone it to fill an area big enough
to make a poster size print out to use as a background ?

It would seem that on a product shot it would not matter if the detail was soft
and that might even be desirable. It would help blend it into the overall image.

One other thought is a custom cabinet shop - there might be similar available as a laminate.
I've bought a lot of very interesting pieces of laminate for tabletop product shot backgrounds.

I probably need 36"x36". I've actually used textures and printed themout on my plotter before so maybe it is a possibility. I think I've seen this metal or something pretty close as a background image. Not sure if i will be able to recreate the light effect they got with the real sheet but it is worth a look if I strike out with the real thing. Thanks!

White pebble laminate is used on some ships for a easy to clean wall and ceiling surfaces. ... a ship carpentry shop might have some less than 4x8 pieces.

FYI, Lowes has a number of metal sheets as well. The images are pretty small so it's tough to tell what, if any textures are available. I've got one nearby and am driving over to check at lunch.

Didn't see any online at Home Depot. Doesn't surprise me.

Thanks again!
