Importing from Mail on another machine

Now that I have set up my brand spanking new iMac I need to move my emails from the trusty Sawtooth that is on and on the network. I am logged into it right now but don't see an obvious way to migrate old emails. Tried to use File->import on the new machine when it asked me to choose a folder. On the Sawtooth, Mail is grayed out though. The Mail version on Sawtooth is several generation behind so I am not sure how the files merge. I hoped for a drag and drop solution.

Copy the ~/Library/Mail directory that Fritz mentioned plus the com.apple.mail.plist in ~/Library/Preferences to the same locations on the new Mac.

After launching Mail on the new machine, it should update the old mail files.

How does it handle mailboxes with the same name I wonder? Merge, overwrite?
