I know they both do TV, but will the Roku stream iTunes and other internet radio besides Pandora?

I got a roku and it is excellent for Netflix and Pandora. I have not tried the other functions yet (flicker, etc). I wonder if there is a way to hack it for Hulu.

Hulu is still in the hacking stage that seems to work until Hulu stops it and then another one pops up. Can't remember the latest.

Roku is excellent for Netflix and Pandora, AppleTV for iTunes-purchased content (and youTube, but who watches that on main TV?). So, it will depend on where you get your content.

For me, Roku was a no-brainer. If I am going to watch a mediocre-quality content (as all streams are), I did not see a reason to pay for it more than what I am already paying to Netflix. In addition, Verizon FiOS DVRs are perfectly capable of streaming iTunes and iPhoto, so there was no reason for me to consider AppleTV for non-video content. Your situation may be different. There are a lot of AppleTV owners on this forum and they seem to like the device.

But neither will give you current TV out-of-the-box, unless you are willing to pay per-episode fee on iTunes.

Hold out for the Boxee box from DLink coming out Q2 2010. It won't play DRMed content you buy from iTunes though.

If you're primarily intersted in Netflix streaming, I'd wait for the Netflix enabled Blu Ray player from Insignia to go on sale again at Best Buy for $99.
