Old news.
That merits a "So what." response.
Called the Copenhagen Wheel, it is nothing like the chunky, heavy motorized bikes exploding in popularity across Asia and other parts of the world or the oh-so-trendy scooters seen in US cities. The Wheel, with a small motor in its hub, will fit into any existing bike frame, giving riders extra horsepower for hills and longer distances.
Hmm.
I don't know if it's going to motivate the hopelessly out of shape to change their lifestyles as suggested.
I would hope the hopelessly out of shape people won't waste their money.
For others, I think that thing has real potential. I'm curious about a number of specs and performance parameters. How much torque? Speed? 5mph? Direct drive? Electric clutch, freewheel pedaling? Regenerative braking/charging? (Ok, that's a stretch.) How long can the motor be used without overheating? Stuff like that.
One could ride out until too pooped to pedal, then motor back. It wouldn't take much of a hill to tucker out some riders, so I can see that thing having some use.
I'll be curious as to the available fitment. Also, the battery power for a mobile sound system could be channeled to the motor to extend the range.
