hey OOma users - still happy?

I just saw my spousal units Vz bill.
WTF!??!? $80

I have a FiOS triple for $110, so I figure an OOma would be a much better idea.
And CostCo has a deal for the month again.
Even if we take the "premium" service for $120/yr.

so what say ye? yea or nay?

I say ABSOLUTELY! I have had Ooma for 4 months and after selling the extras it came with (Ooma scout and free iPod shuffle) my net cost was $120, which would have been my bill for Comcast voice during that time. Even if Ooma goes belly up in the next few months (I sure as hell hope not), the way I look at it, every day from now to that point is no cost for calls for me.

As long as you have decently fast internet (>6Mb plan) it is a no-brainer. Personally, I would not pay the $120 premium plan as the "free" plan works fine. Some have said that you cannot fax using Ooma, but using my Brother 8860 works fine.

FYI: before faxing you have to turn off compression for that "call" by pressing *99 before sending.

DO IT!

we're about a month into using an ooma at home, and it's been the best VOIP provider we've used (we've used 3 others over the past 3 years). We're sticking with the basic service, and that should be more than adequate for most people, I think.

I started with OOMA last March. Purchased the unit on sale at Costco.
No problems so far.
I find the service and phone quality better than than Vonage.

I second the DO IT!

When I looked into it around Thanksgiving, both Amazon and Frys seemed like a better deal than Costco, but that may have changed since then.

All three were selling for around $200, but Costco is only the Hub, while the others were the entire Core system including the Scout for the same price, and Amazon had a deal that included a free iPod Shuffle making it the best deal.

And the Costco deal that I saw in-store seemed to have different service terms, they were subject to the new annual $11 charges and required a credit card while the other two did not. This might not matter anymore, I think I saw someplace that starting Jan 1, all new activations will be subject to that annual charge.

We've had one in use since Oct, no real problems, the only minor quirk seems to be that the outgoing CallerID doesn't show our name, just our number.

The Dec 31st date was for the increase in the Premier Service fee.

The annual charge thing changed before and will not apply to an unactivated hub/scout combo per this page:

And, yes, we are still happy with the ooma.

Ooma Hub Only Product at Costco (For Ooma Hub/Scout combinations sold through Costco.com, see above)

4 New or Unactivated Hub Only Product

1. Voice mail is no longer included in Ooma Core.
2. Enhanced voicemail is available as a standalone option for $49.99/yr if you don’t want to purchase all the Premier features. Enhanced voicemail includes;
1. One-Touch access to voicemail, Call Screening
2. Remote access to messages through any web browser or telephone
3. Voicemail notifications to your mobile phone
4. Voicemail mp3 audio file attachment sent to your email
5. Send-to-Voicemail
6. Do Not Disturb
3. If you want to purchase an annual Ooma Premier subscription, you can do so until 12/31/09 at $99.99, after that the price will go up by $20 to $119.99.
4. The annual regulatory recovery fee applies per the original terms and conditions.

This seems to be what applies to the Hub-only version that I see at my local Costco store for $199, they also have a sign there that says Credit Card required. So you don't get the Scout and you have to pay the annual fee, and pay for Voicemail if you want it.

So it still seems that if you can find the Core system (Hub+Scout) for around $200 and no annual fee, it's a better deal that the in-store Costco deal.

I got the hub-only at Fry's on sale for $160 a month ago. Will be switching from Vonage when my pre-paid year is up in March.
