hp AIO printers

I'm looking to replace my deskjet 920c printer. I was over Costco and liked the price of the hp j4550 AIO printer ($69.99). Can someone tell me if these machines are any good? It would also replace my Microtek 4850 scanner to save some desktop space. I would like to stay in the $100.00 range, so maybe I should just get another printer and keep my scanner. I don't print that much and I want to stay with an inkjet. Any help would appreciated.

Thanks

Lee

personally I've been unhappy with HP products the last few and have gone to Canon.
I have an MF4350 laser AIO that I like other then the fact it only works with Image Capture for scanning.
My mum has a MX850 which comes with an old version (still works well) of OmniPage.
Others here will say Brother coz it works with VueScan.
one of my workmates says FujiScan is the real and very fast deal.
Dunno if the pricing on these will work for you.

Another one here that dropped HP in favor of Canon. I am a computer consultant and do a lot of work on both PC & Macs, HP software has become too bloated and unreliable for my liking, the decision to change to Canon was prompted by Tier-2 Apple tech support who advised that Canon does better job of keeping up with OS-X than any other manufacturer. I have changed a lot of client to Canon and they are all happy with the results.

Me too - another one who has moved to Canon...

Actually, lasers are much better and cheaper to operate, but the color lasers are still more money up front. For color laser, I like Brother. Do some research.

I'm not recommending this particular model, but here's an example of a Brother inkjet AIO for less than $100. I used to buy nothing but HPs, but I'm another Canon convert, although I'd also consider a Brother.

Toooo many bad reviews on the hp j4550. I'm gonna do some research and decide to get an AIO or a regular inkjet printer. Loads of ads in Sunday's paper. What to do... What to do.

Thanks for the replys

No problems with my HP All in One, model F4210 I bought about two years ago for $30.

I have a HP PhotoSmart 3310xi, and it is a great printer. The scanner sw could be better and the ink is expensive. Great for quick copies.

I've been using a Officejet 6500 despite poor reviews with none of the review issues.
Mostly as a fax machine.

I switched to Canon at home a while back, too, but Canon AIO were hard to find locally.

Look at ink costs, just not initial purchase price.

Cannon users - have you tried installing SANE - open source TWAIN drivers?

I've switched back from Canon to HP since Canon has gone the Epson ink-in-a-tube route instead of the HP printhead-in-a-cartridge route. I don't print enough to keep the tubes from clogging up and I rarely print in color, so for me, HP is the way to go.

I recently got a D1660 for $36 delivered and it is a very good fast little printer. I earlier bought a Photosmart 4550 at Costco for $85 before I realized that there was no driver support for it in 10.5 or 10.6. This situation has since been fixed, but I gave it to the wife before the drivers appeared, and she likes it. Maybe I can get her to swap back so that I can have scanning....

Did you note that Costco has the HP C8180 AIO for $170? The retail on it is $400 and HP has it for $280. $170 seems like a good deal. It has a film/slide scanning feature. HP is giving $50 for your old printer. I seem to collect printers and I'm tempted.
