I have a dream . . .

I have a dream that someday I will come across an interesting music video on Youtube.

And I will find myself curious as to what exactly it is I'm looking at.

Curiosity . . . has its place.

And I will look to the side, and I will see that that video has a link that says, "more info."

And I will click upon that link, and I will find more info.

Dang, the video must have ended before the "greatest solo ever" was in the show. Last thing I saw was a Prince guitar solo, then it appeared the song ended.

I was a big Prince fan when I was younger. That thing rocks.
I need to listen to the last couple decades from Prince.

that is quite a performance.
As much as I like seeing and hearing George and Eric together from what can only assume is the Concert for Bangladesh in NYC, the Prince solo slams.
And it's good to see him him on a real guitar instead of that nasty custom thing.
I spent 12 hours with him working a session for 4 the Tears in Your Eyes. He's quite impressive as a player, arranger and producer. But it was most enjoyable watching him play guitar.

I believe the clip is from a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

EDIT: May have misunderstood your post. Apologies.

So I guess I'm the only one who thought his solo sucked and his usual poser attitude and walk off at the end was totally inappropriate. smiling smiley

IMHO, he's a great producer, great artist and great writer but a pretty mediocre guitarist. He does give good show, if you like that sort of thing.

I don't think this video is named accurately, but the juxtaposition of Prince's style onto an R&R establishment foundation was entertaining.

Maybe he walked off because his hips were killing him.

But NOT the best guitar solo ever. It's not even Prince's best guitar solo.

It was a great performance.

I too was disappointed by Prince's "showmanship" at the end of the performance. Had that been one of his *own* concerts that wouldn't have bothered me at all.

And while I don't think it was the "Greatest Guitar Solo, etc" I really enjoyed the performance. It totally rocked.

The Harrison/Clapton performance was a different animal. It was probably the YouTube audio, but it seemed to lack energy; seemed more laid back than the album version.

I have tremendous respect for Prince's talent, although I'm hesitant to say that's the greatest guitar solo ever. I've seen him live a couple times and my favorite part of his show is when he comes out with an acoustic guitar, sits on a stool and sings, all alone. No screaming vacuum tubes, endless sustain, vocoders, just natural guitar and voice. You cannot fake that.

He is a very good guitarist, as well as playing many other instruments - on many of his albums he played all the parts. His father was a jazz pianist and his mother a singer so his musical foundation is deep and diverse. I believe he also studied dance during his early development. BTW, Prince is his real name.

As far as his solo goes, I think like everything else he does there was pre-thought involved. I'd be willing to bet there is some side story involving that old guitar he used for the solo and when he threw it down at the end, I would tend to think that was a symbolic gesture out of respect for George Harrison.

I thought he was just getting out of the spotlight so people could see the rest of the band. It's not like he deserved all the applause on his own.

no, he ain't Beck (not that one, the REAL one), but I've heard him play circles around other "stellar" players.

Anyone that thinks that's the greatest solo of all time has never hear of Richard Thompson or Pat Metheney or a few dozen others I can think of off the top of my head.

Check out the version from the Harrison/Clapton tour from the early 90's. Much better than the stoned out bunch at CfB.

his attitude is tight, but so are many at that level.
But not rude or nasty.
