Could you explain what the difference is between these two cards?

The descriptions above only differ in that the first one doesn't mention "Core" support, but it does when you click on the link.

I have a Mirror Door Dual 867 I'd like to pop one of these cards into.

Looks like the 2nd is for MDD only, not QS or DA models as well.

Good question. Why make 2 different cards like this, unless the 2nd card is the original, and the 1st is a later unit with the modifications necessary to work in the other models as well.

It's pretty simple - for some unknown reason, not all OEM 9600 cards will work in the whole range of machines. We have some that work with DA, QS, and MDD, and some that will NOT work in QS and DA but do work in MDD.

Therefore, we test every one of them after modification and split them out into 2 parts.

The fact that you test every one of them reflects the high quality standard from OWC.

What I don't understand is why you call these "OEM" if they are "Modified". I don't think you can use these two words in the same sentence, right?

Well, these are brand new OEM ATI cards, never designated for the retail channel. They shipped in G5 systems, and are either brand new and never installed, or pulls (meaning, they are pulled out, like if you ordered a G5 with a top of the line video card, this was in that G5 to start).

We buy these, in large bulk quantity, and modify SOME of them to work in these other systems.

Therefore, in my opinion, it's an OEM card that has been modified.

So, why modify "some" and not "all"????? Is that where you differentiate the extra cost???

How do you actually modify these?? Physically, with a soldering iron? DIP switches??

Curiosity is simply forcing me to inquire . . .

Because some are sold unmodified for G5 use. People did buy the crappy GeForce FX5200 card and want this one (middle of the line at that time for the G5 systems). And, I would assume some are modifying their own cards.

That's why some, not all, are modified by us. :>)
