resolution for storing video

I like to store video on my computer and play it back via my eyehome. Right now I have a 27" tv but will probably move up to a 42" in a few years. I'm wondering what would be an ideal resolution to store the video in? Right now I use 512x336 and the xvid encoder.

My New Year's resolution is to stop storing so much video on my computer.

I have 750gb and I archive off to dvd quite a bit. I'll bet i have at least 50 dvd's of tv shows. You never know when you might want to watch the entire seinfeld series back to back.

I know exactly when that will happen.
It's when the outdoor temperature of Redmond, WA stays below 32F all year round.

I can't say the same thing about Buffy. I just finished watching the show finale episode after viewing the all episodes of the 7 seasons at the pace of one or two episodes each day.

That'll never happen. Too many people pee on the MS sign for the area to cool to that temp.
