Going to be in the Sand Diego and Tijuana for 3 days soon.

I would like some suggestions, mostly legal, on things to do down there or certain great spots to dine at.

Thanks ahead of time.

I'm headed that direction too....Padres vs Dodgers tomorrow.

If you haven't checked it out...Hotel Del Coronado is a fun stop.
La Jolla cove is a spectacular setting at sunset. Torrey Pines to the north is an awesome sight if you can catch a day with hang gliders.
Head north to Encinitas and find a fun town for shopping and people watching. North end of Encinitas is Moonlight Beach, one of the better family beaches in the county. South end of town is Swamis beach...excellent beach for surfers and body boards.

Tijuana....skip it. If not...park near the border and take a bus.

Is traffic that bad in tijuana? We are going to be taking care of some personal business so it's not on the avoid list.

Most rental car companies specifically prohibit taking their vehicles into Mexico. Taking a personal vehicle into Tijuana requires purchaing special insurance before entry is allowed. The rate of theft vandalism and break-ins in Tijuana is higher than you want to know. The only real reason to drive into town is to leave your car for cut rate body work or upholstery work.

Crossing the border in a car coming back to the US can take several hours. Taing a bus back to the border and walking through customs is much faster.

Do not take the car to Mexico. Reasonable safe parking on the last exit to the US. It will take hours to get back in a car and not worth the risk. Why would you want to visit third world poverty when you can go visit Coronado like people suggest? I mean it's real and unfortunate but Tijuana is horrible up Norte. Ocean Beach not far from Sunset Cliffs is real fun. Newport avenue. La Jolla always nice.

Took the family to SD for vacation last summer. Fun was had by the entire family; we visited the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Safari, Legoland, SeaWorld, Balboa Park, the Maritime Museum, and the aircraft carrier USS Midway. I'd recommend any of those things (but you may want to bypass Legoland if you're not travelling with kids). We also explored some San Diego neighborhoods and did the bus over the border trip to Tijuana. We could have skipped the Tijuana trip; my kids found the constant hectoring by street merchants annoying.

I did subject my wife an kids to something only I found interesting; they were good sports about it:

In TJ take a $50 taxi to 1000's of drug stores.

Go to the Photography Museum in Balboa Park, SD.
