Safari slow to get-a-goin' - any fixes?

G4 933 1.25 GB RAM OS 10.4.5, Safari 2.0.3.

Safari always takes a while to settle down when I start up and start using it. I get spinning beachballs for the first few minutes when I click on links or try to scroll down a page. after a few minutes it's fine and pretty fast but the initial few minutes are annoying.

I don't get this with Firefox but I prefer Safari for surfing. oes anybody else get this or know of a fix?

Thanks

Wow, never heard of this one. It's always pretty responsive for me on my Mac mini. It crashes a lot on the eMac I've been using at work these days for some odd reason but doesn't display the problems you seem to be having.

Have you tried using Opera? I use it a lot for downloads and such.

I really am not a fan of Safari. It has always been slow for me. Could be my machines, but I don't think so. Try Opera.

I neglected to mention I boot from an external drive, don't know if that's an issue.

I haven't tried Opera in a while. Thanks to you both, I'll give it a shot.

you might also try emptying cache, disabling RSS update checking in Safari RSS prefs, doing the "reset safari", etc.

might also run applejack.

I have a 1ghz emac/1 gb RAM, and the only time I notice any slowdown is when I have a TON of tabs open and lots of other programs running at the same time.

good luck.
