OT: Tape the lights?
Posted by: kap

Our home is a late 1900s Victorian so we try to minimize its blemishes so we are avoiding putting more nails, screws, hooks (the previous owners drilled hundreds of holes) onto the porch's ceiling and walls. Questions: Can we use tape to adhere our Xmas lights? We merely have three 11 feet of triple swag Xmas lights. If safe, then what type of tape is recommendable? TiA

What about using some type of velcro wrap arounds? I've seen some in Home Depot that are supposed to allow you to hang stuff without driving nails into walls.

Can you use any of the pre existing holes? I installed C hooks into my porch roof and just lay the wires in the hook openings.

If you wait another day or so the problem might resolve itself.

How about double sided tape and velcro or just the tape or since they're only going to be there for a short time, hire some sign swingers to hold them! ;)

There are 3M picture-hooks that stick to a flat wall and can be peeled off without leaving blemishes.

Check your local Home Depot.

The tape will more than likely leave residue if it sticks.
HD sells plastic hooks for almost any roof type.

Double sided tape will pull the paint off the house, tried it last year at XMAS.

I use binder clips to attach the lights to my gutters!

JoeM,
Pre-existing holes are where we want them to be sad smiley However, we are able to use the variety of C hooks that are already there.

RgrF,
Sure I can wait a few more day. In the mean time I will be sleeping in the dog's house; not even the couch.

MacMagus,
She doesn't care for double-sided tape nor 3M picture-hooks for fear they will take off the paint. So we used masking tape. It worked so far.

Thanks for all suggestions guys!

Well, I'm glad that you got the lights up. smiling smiley

For future reference, I've used the 3M picture hooks in several apartments and can say with some confidence that so long as you follow the directions, they will not take off the paint or leave a residue.
