15 minutes, 15 seconds!

That's how long it took me to get to the forum on this new Intel iMac. I started the countdown just before grabbing the utility knife to open the box. Nice! Nobody else but me is interested, I suppose, but it took me 4 minutes to get the thing out of the box; another 4 minutes to take the plastic off the pieces and plug in the mouse and keyboard and then hit the power button. That was 8 minutes, so it was 7 minutes and 15 seconds to go through the registration process and get online. I hope start up gets faster!

Now, wasn't that boring? smiling smiley

This thing is really, really nice, and I'm glad I decided to go with the Intel. Of course I haven't loaded any software on it yet, but there's plenty of time to play around with that.

Now a question: Is there any point in paying the higher price for Samsung RAM? I bought OWC RAM for my 17" PowerBook, and it's been fine.

Gotta go and e-mail friends and tell them the good news!

Last time I opened a new mac, mini was here and did all the work for me. He is such a great Leader.

Congrats, and a one fast LEADER!

On a PC, the first internet site is M$ for the 2 gigs of emergency patches and updates, without which, your OS will die a quick and horrible death in very short time when exposed to the atmosphere outside the original packing box.

Nice !
(Does anyone else remember the 'contest' for how long it would take to get a iMac and a PC on the web. The PC was handled by a guy with a college degree. The iMac was handled by an elementary school aged boy. Well, ok, and his dog, Brodie, who went to obedience school. It was a hoot !)

Oh, wow! I've never been called a geek before. How cool to be a 60 year old eek. I guess. Or not? Maybe I should be embarrassed? smiling smiley

OWC RAM it is, and boy does it need more than the piddly 512MB Apple provides. Right now my PB seems faster; I hope that changes with more RAM.

OK, now I'm exhausted from all the excitement. See y'all in the a.m.

And then I found that Kevin Costner made a TV ad for the Apple LIsa ? Hmm- I vaguely remember that one, thinking "He doesn't know how to use a mouse" (I was using a huge Engineering workstation that had it's OS based on Smalltalk and PARCStation at the time)

I started laughing hysterically. That's a sign of fatigue - at least for me, and I choose to think that's why I was "eeking", too. Go ahead and have your fun, Racer! smiling smiley Now I really am going to give up on this computer stuff for the day.

The mac vs. PC set-up edited out the part with the kids older brother lifting the iMac out of the box for him

The big part that was edited out was the PC guy actually set up the PC the day before, all the drivers and patches were gathered and burned to floppies. Then the PC was restored to the in the box condition, and sealed.
