as the truth sinks in i'm starting to think about what we should do as a memorial. the facebook group makes it clear this forum is small compared to the larger group of people she touched. i'm curious who should serve as a contact for the mac forum and for any larger efforts.

i'd like to see both a memorial for her and a symbol of condolences for greg.

My sincere condolences to Greg and those close to her. Words fail me.

Like others have said, it's startling how a "virtual" friend can have such a strong impact.

When I looked at all the pictures of Kathy's models, these lines came back to me:

"When old age shall this generation waste,
Thou shalt remain, in midst of other woe
Than ours, a friend to man, to whom thou say'st,
'Beauty is truth, truth beauty,' - that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know."

From "Ode On a Grecian Urn" — John Keats

Farewell for now, MacGurl.

I've taken up this task more than once in the past and would be happy to do it again, but since I am still recovering from surgery will need to pass for now. I'll be happy to help anyone who volunteers.

I once perused her site long before she and greg were married.

There was a long essay on her ex hubby (or was it bf) that dumped her. She was very sad and was trying to realize that SHE was ok, that he had made a mistake.

The more I read, the more I came to really like this girl. But as a livelong sufferer of depression, I think I recognized it in her as well. Thinking back - it's obvious. I remember thinking how great it was that she and greg got married - perhaps that would turn it around.

On the subject of suicide... it's really scary for anyone with deep depression. It's never far away. While walking across town one day, I was in my own little world - hardly noticing my surroundings when suddenly bells started ringing as rail crossing barrier came down right in front of me. The train was coming... This was it - a perfect opportunity just came out of the blue. But did I really want to?

A million thoughts rushed through my mind and most of them were about the people I'd leave behind. I just couldn't do that to the people I loved. The rest of the day was a waste. People in the midst of depression just can't think very clearly. But it was that day that I realized that I would never commit suicide as long as there were people left behind that I cared about.

Over the years, I came to think of suicide as something that only a horrible person would do to the ones they loved, but now that it's' happened, I just can't level those kind of feelings at Kathy.

Some years after the train incident, I found myself in another downward spiral and recognized that if I didn't do SOMETHING, I'd completely run out of money in a few months.

I managed to have enough clarity to realize that I was heading on a path to doom and very suddenly revealed my secret depression to my family and friends and announced that I was about to lean heavily on all of them at some time or another. That's when I broke down and sought therapy. A couple of years later I was a different person. I still have battles with depression, but I now have an arsenal at hand to help me fight it.

So people - please, please seek out help before you do something this horrible to yourself, and worse, to the people who will live with the memory for the rest of their lives.

I'm very sorry Greg and know that no matter what happened, it was her and not you that did this. YOU didn't cause her to go this route and nothing you would have done would have stopped her - if anything, you gave her several great years and helped push this day back farther away.

I'm sorry if I presume too much, but if I can get one person to change their course, I think it's worth posting this.

I saw this first thing this morning and have avoided it all day, hoping there was some sort of mistake. Such sad news. Like others here, I followed the Greg and Kathy story and thought it was so cool they way they got together. But all stories have an end and there's no guarantee of a happy one. My condolences to Greg and both their families.

Sad happens.

This was a really bad sad.

Words alone cannot convey the healing power of time,
but they can convey that others are with you as your journey through time, while sadly altered, continues.
You can see from this thread, it will continue with the help and caring of many others.

Sometimes it is what it is...
and then there's times when it's really better.

As others have indicated by their posts, that which happens in this virtual community has a tendency to produce strong feelings among those of us, who have been sharing about our computers and our lives for many years.

I am shocked and saddened by the news about "MacGurl."

My condolences to her family and friends.

Horses - Rickie Lee Jones

We will fly way up high
Where the cold wind blows
Or in the sun, laughing and having fun
With the people that she knows
And if the situation should keep us separated
You know the world won't fall apart
And you will free the beautiful bird
That's caught inside your heart

Can't you hear her?
Oh she cries so loud
Casts her wild note
Over water and cloud

That's the way it's gonna be, little darlin'
We'll be riding on the horses, yeah
Way up in the sky, little darlin'
And if you fall I'll pick you up, pick you up

You will grow, and until you go
I'll be right there by your side
And even then, whisper the wind
And she will carry up your ride
I hear all the people of the world
In a little bird's lonely cry
See them trying every way they know how
To make their spirits fly

Can't you see him?
He's down on the ground
He has a broken wing
Looking all around

That's the way it's gonna be, little darlin'
You'll be riding on the horses, yeah
Way up in the sky, little darlin'
And if you fall I'll pick you up, pick you up

Don't worry 'bout a thing little girl
Because I was young myself not so long ago
And when I was young, when I was young
And when I was young, oh I was a wild, wild one.

RIP Kathie

I am still in shock about this.

Could I please ask a favor of everyone on this forum, before you EVER do something tragic, please have a look back at this thread first???

Then you will realize that someone, somewhere (or in Kathy's case, a LOT of someones, everywhere) will MISS you terribly, and it's never nearly really as bleak as you may think it is.
