Didn't see any posts on this, but heard it on the radio coming to work this morning.

Seems Motorola's latest DROID is here ... and it's got FLASH!

Available July 15 for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement. Customers will receive the mail-in rebate in the form of a debit card; upon receipt, customers may use the card as cash anywhere debit cards are accepted.

Verizon still using those *&(^%$%^# plastic debit card rebates. Ughh. Why send me yet another plastic card in the mail to keep track of and then throw away in the landfill after usage? Just write a paper check rebate. Is that so difficult?

if they sent you a check, you could just deposit it in your bank.

If they send you a debit card, you have to spend it, no?

Or you might lose it.
Or you might not use all of it before you toss it (leaving a tiny balance on it which they then don't have to cover.)

And with thousands (and thousands) of debit cards distributed, they'll save a substantial amount versus just sending out checks.

and the fine print on those debit cards is that there are service fees of $1.50 (IIRC) per month.

So, they win that way, too.

Too bad. Can it be disabled? ( BTW, it won't be available until 'later this summer.' )

I guess we are seeing the Mac/Windows battle all over again except that "Windows" is now the underdog.
