Down to the wire! Need gift suggestions.

Some of the hardest things for me to buy:

1) for my seventy-plus year old dad 900 miles away
2) for my (female) boss
3) for my two sisters (in other states)
4) stocking stuffers!

What are your suggestions?

jimmypoo, is that can for real?

I think I'm going to hurl.

him carry me, and yet assure myself and others

CJ,
I was thinking of getting one of these for my mom, who is about the same age as your dad. She is not tech savvy, so I'm still debating it. It looks pretty simple. I was going to load it up with pics of her only granddaughter. Anyway here's the link. Also, they had one at my local Costco yesterday, so you might go there to actually look at it, if you are interested. TigerDirect had the best price that I could find on-line with the rebate, but Costco was close and had a rebate, too.

Or, the potted meat....

CJ, my dad, who lived in California, loved jam and preserves. So I would send him some peach butter and blackberry jam from a farm stand here in Maryland, and he just loved it. He would call at odd times during the year and say he was having some jam on a piece of toast and enjoying it. Anyhow, that's something to think about. People of a certain age don't necessarily want gifty things anymore, because they don't want to find a place to put them and dust them.

How close are you to your boss? Maybe a gift certificate for a manicure or a pedicure? Or a couple of movie tickets?

My sister stumps me every year. I fall back on the old Barnes & Noble gift card.

Stocking stuffers--have you ever checked stupid.com? Great fun!

wish I had some meaningful suggestions for ya. I'm lousy at shopping for gifts. I've lucked out, my family isn't really big on the whole gift exchange thing.

I'm not off the hook, though. I have to figure out what to get for people at work - my boss, employees & co-workers.

I'm thinking of trying to just pull out some of my mom's tried & true x-mas cookies & goodies recipes and call it good.

OOOH, hey, I just remembered...if you like giving food products, try this: [www.eagleranchpistachios.com]

They are the BEST! My mom sends those to her family every year.

Gutenberg, your suggestion reminded me of this place: [www.honeyvillecolorado.com]

Excellent & very unique products. My favorite is the peach amaretto pecan whipped honey. [www.honeyvillecolorado.com]

I replied to your post, Chip. See what you think.

If your sister likes to read, I have just finished a wonderful account of Benjamin Franklin's ambassadorship in France during the Revolutionary War. It's called "A Great Improvisation" by Stacy Schiff.

Edit: if the thought of a biography makes you think "ick," keep in mind that this book reads very much like a novel. It is really wonderful.

I was thinking of donations to Heifer Project or a local food bank, or other charity in the name of a family member. Also tickets to local musical performances or even a phone card from CostCo so they can call on your dime.

I would definitely donate to the Hefner Project if it got me an invitation to a party at the Mansion.
