do i need a scanner driver for a canon n1220u usb scanner? if so, where/how?

i was under the assumption that this scanner, which had run fine under classic and w/my pismo, would be plug-n-play w/the 10.4.6 g5/imac.

do i still need a driver for this scanner?

i've been to the canon site but the only info they have about this scanner is a product info pdf. can other canon drivers work with this scanner?

i've put an image into the scanner, pushed the one button that it has and nothing happens. anyone have any clues how i proceed?

thanks in advance

be well

Yes, I had to download the drivers to use mine under 10.3.9, too, even though they supposedly were already installed on the system. sad smiley

My booboo; I have the 1240. However, this link should take you to the driver download page of CanonUSA. There is an OS X driver listed for the 1220, but I didn't take time to ferret out which flavors of OS X were included. Sorry that I made it sound so simple the first time around. sad smiley

after finally clicking thru the above link at: scanner-drivers.com and registering and waiting for the confirming email and ignoring all the pages of stuff this free site is trying to sell, i finally downloaded what i thought was the driver and the canon toolbox.

i rebooted

i plugged and unplugged the scanner

i hit the one button

nothing

i repaired permissions

i rebooted

i hit the one button

nothing, no sound, no lights, no software opening up. wtf?

so, now i'm getting too close to my deadline and this scanner isn't doing squat. i could use some folks w/more experience than i to offer some insight. as always, thanks in advance.

be well

Did you get the one from the Canon site? No registration, no confirmation e-mail. I got the driver for what purports to be for the N1220U for OS X, and it's on my desktop as a .dmg. PM me with an e-mail address if you want to try it. It's 524MB, compressed. I can't test it, because I have neither that particular model nor am I runnning 10.4 on this computer.

You could continue to beat your head against the wall trying for a Canon software solution or you could just download Vuescan [www.macupdate.com] (yes, the N1220U is supported).

I think he's been up and running for a while. The last time I heard from him he had plugin for the scanner showing up in PS CS, so we were moving in the right direction. I think he's been in seclusion, scanning wildly, for a while. At least that's what I hope he's been doing and not off committing harikari (sp?). sad smiley

alphadog and others-

thanks for the effort and support.

so i still cannot get the scanner to work. alphadog was kind enough to forward drivers. still didn't work. 230pm yesterday afternoon, i get a call from my daughter's school. seemed thru a rube goldberg-type accident, while waitin on line to get into spanish class, one boy trips, another tries to catch him as he falls, he knocks over a third, who is the largest kid in the 7th grade, and he lands on my daughter's foot and breaks her pinky toe! i spend the rest of the afternoon with doctors, etc. and on the way home stop off at staples and buy the canon lide60 which is on sale for $59/AR. i put the daughter to bed, load the drivers onto the g5imac, plug in the scanner and viola, i'm in business. i then scan 125 images. close down at 1:25am. and open u this morning by tweaking the slides.

ain't it great being a dad?

i think it is.

be well
