He gets an executive summary and someone reads the bullet-points to him.

I really like the quotes from the White House Spokesman:

"The president is a history buff" and "The president is an avid reader."

I had no idea that the president was such student of history. I'll bet even the president is surprised.

I wish I thought that he reads anything at all, let alone history books. I just can't get myself to believe it.

BUSH PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY DESTROYED BY FIRE


Crawford, Texas -- A tragic fire this morning destroyed the personal library of President George W. Bush. The fire began in the presidential bathroom where both of the books were kept. Both of his books have been lost. A presidential spokesman said the president was devastated, as he had almost finished coloring the second one.

Thank God! "Those who do not learn from History are doomed to repeat it." I also get
comfort and joy in the fact that he is *MAKING* time to read good material. This is even
more proof that he is not frittering time away studying polls, as did his predecessor. We
already know that he has a fine, terrific, wonderful exemplary wife, and is not trolling the
hallways with his zipper at half-mast as did his predecessor - the impeached former
Priapism-in-Chief.

Looks like a sound man with good skills at prioritization.
Sorta like a Harvard MBA, N'est-ce pas?

Then the next logical step would be that he would LEARN from past mistakes, and not make them himself....Nah.

TR - A great President. Knew how and when to use American power. Built the Panama
Canal that Jimmy Carter gave away. Built up the US military and national park system,
both of which Clinton cut funding to.

does anybody remember that quote from some journalist about what question he'd really like to ask Pres. Bush that went something like "you were not a curious young man....you were a bad governor of Texas...what makes you qualified to be president?"

ring any bells? The full quote - which I'm sure I butchered - is very good..

When a White House spokesman has to say things like this, it only reinforces that it is not true. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall seeing a TV interview with Bush where he was asked about event in the past but rebuffed the questioner with a statement about how he was not interested in history.

Didn't he say Africa was a country?

Why does it surprise anyone that Bush would seek guidance from the actions of another imperialist president? The PNAC views Iraq as merely a flat-tire on the road to world domination. Nuking Iran will surely cut off support for the insurgency, and play to all three elements of the administration. The neocons get to advance a square on their game board; the Likkudites get a boon to Israel; and the dispensationalist Scofield Bible-believing Zionist Christians get Armageddon so Jesus comes back.
