I was lamenting our lack of leadership today...

and came upon the link to MLK"s "I have a dream" speech.

Is it that we don't have leaders like that any longer or is that we don't have a single issue to unite so many people?

If you have the time, watch the video...

It's simple apathy and angst.

It takes more to get a rise out of people today.

Television, the news media and entertainment companies have conspired to rob the general population of their sense of indignation at wrongdoing and of the righteous pride and good feelings from doing something right for its own sake.

And we've let them get away with it.

It also has to due with the dumbing down of America. If you think the country (as a whole) isn't dumber now than it was 20 or 30 years ago, I'd be interested in hearing it.

I think it is, but then throughout history older people have thought those who followed were dumber than them.

Tell me how I err.

I feel that truly inspirational people do not want to be under the constant attack of the media that appears to be the hurdle for public leadership positions these days. Our mass media is so busy tearing down every possible positive role model that they can find that they don't EVERY spend any time building them up.

good points....Stevejobs: we could start with a president - regardless of policy - who doesn't sound like a moran every time he opens his mouth.

That lets Ah-nalt off the hook … (although he did quite possibly have the best one-liner in Cars )

Thanks for the link. I remember listening to that speech in '63 when I was a 13 year old white kid growing up on the South side of Chicago. It has had a big influence on my life. Do you think his dream will ever come through?
