I don't know - should they be asking?

Why is it that people that hop in a boat and come over from cuba are NOT illegal immigrants, but those from Mexico or Venezuela are?

Some on the left want to make this a big deal (looking at the media reports). Folks in Florida don't care they still love him. He has a big following among the Latinos and that seems to drive the Democrats crazy.

The only thing I think is odd about the issue of how his parents came to be in the U.S. is that Rubio didn't just come out with a statement like, "I had always thought that, long before I was born, my parents had left Cuba to escape Castro. Now I know that they came to the United States before that time but did not feel they could return to Cuba after Castro took power." The way he has handled the situation isn't very good. He's pretty young, though, so if he's sharp he'll learn from it. He definitely is the Republican most likely to get chosen to be the VP nominee on the Republican ticket no matter who wins the nomination for the presidency. If it weren't for that, this issue would have probably flown largely under the radar.

Wouldn't he be considered an "anchor baby"? Someone our right wing friends like Swampy would have sent back to Cuba.

You still haven't answered the question swampy.

Why post such an inconsequential topic? No link, forcing folks to google in order to find out what you are talking about. Then a cryptic line about how "the left" should care.

What is the point of posting this topic, swampy?

Also - after a cursory google search, mick e hasn't really seen evidence of anyone on the left "making this a big deal". The people active in exposing this story appear to be the same bunch of kookbiscuits that were asking for Obama's birth certificate.

i/e swampy's hero Orly Taitz and the Birthers!

So for you scoring at home - this would be another example of a...
DOUBLE FAIL.

It's nice to see that someone is interested in filling in for Dakota, though.

Because we accept refugees from Communist states.. it's a cold war legacy. Quite simple.

Should that change ? Sure. Will it ? Dunno. The Little Havana lobby is pretty darn strong.

So like the recent comments by Republicans, we ought to keep fighting in Iraq, rather than bringing the troops home?

“It is important to remember that these events occurred over a decade before he was born, and the dates and time frames are based on how these events were described to him almost two decades after they happened,” Rubio spokesman Alex Conant told The Fix. “As it turns out, some of the dates and time frames were wrong. But his family story is essentially the same.”

That's plausible.

It explains the discrepancies between his story 2 years ago and what he's saying now. People have done research on the subject and he's accepted their factual corrections... But yes, there's a suspicious lapse where his people failed to revise his bio for their PR and web site and that appears to be part of a cynical and hypocritical campaign of misinformation.

If he was an anchor baby or not is a non issue. His ascendency in the GOP should put the whole issue to rest.

Wow, I had no idea the number of Colombians in Florida. That's got to be an interesting bloc for the Latino vote.
