Paranoia is a rational response to a conspiracy-universe...

Wanna get paranoid...?

'Saw this article and decided to see for myself if any of my local comm traffic went through AT&T's servers...
[blog.wired.com]

So I fired up Interachy and ran some traceroutes...

Everything that I do goes through swdc.ip.att.net.

I check my e-mail from my local ISP's server and it takes a jump over to AT&T and back again onto my ISP's network before hitting the mail server.

I do any web browsing and after a half-dozen local routers, every request hits at&T.net immediately before it hits the destination server.

It doesn't seem to matter what ports/protocols are being used. Everything takes a little detour onto AT&T's network before it goes out onto the 'net.

And AT&T shares it all with the U.S. government.

Try it yourself.

Who here DOESN'T have their communications going through AT&T's fiber?
