At least Condi Rice is a very intelligent, educated, and accomplished woman and not just a pretty face like Palin and Bachmann. There are so many worse people he could choose, IMHO.

She could handily beat Biden in a debate and Obama on the golf course.

I don’t agree with the notion that we shouldn’t do anything. It turns out, by the way, that oil rigs today generally don’t cause spills. They are technologically very advanced. Even during Katrina, the spills didn’t come from the oil rigs, they came from the refineries onshore. -- B. Obama

No way, too Bush Cheneyish.

Romney doesn't want to be photographed anywhere near those two, even though he's doing a fundraiser with Cheney tonight in Wyoming. No media allowed.

I think it's going to be somebody very vanilla, if you'll pardon the expression, like Rob Portman.

It would be a tough ticket but I suspect target voters might see through it.
Would an elder of LDS church commit such a violation? After all women are not allowed to become elders and blacks were barred entirely until well after the civil rights movement put down roots.

Won't happen.

mick e doesn't think it would be tokenism. She's got a substantial resumé.

The problem is, connecting a potential Romney administration to the Bush II disaster is NOT really a formula for success.

The position is below her. I hope she sticks to her guns and keeps saying no. No doubt they'll try to appeal to her party loyalty.

Drudge said that it was her performance at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, when she received two standing ovations for her "extended argument for American leadership in the world," that made her a serious contender.

I've always been a bit sad that Rice was such a damn fool as to be a part of the Bush-Cheney mindset. We need more classical musicians in government.

Why does everyone give Rice a pass on Iraq?

I don't want that woman near the White House. I couldn't care less if she speaks Russian or can play the piano.

She was a terrible failure as Sec of State and was one of the chief architects of the Iraq invasion. The world would be a better place if she'd stayed in academia.

she was only "one of the chief architects" of the Iraq invasion as those were her orders from above and she was following them. many people should recall that she famously hated Donald Rumsfeld and didn't think he knew his ass from his elbow. I can't verify that, but I'm certainly inclined to believe her rather than him.

She's apparently done a better job with rehabilitation of her reputation and the "rewrite" than Bush and Cheney have. Do people want to give her a pass because she's a woman?

Condi Rice
*knew about the al-Qaeda threat and plan to "attack America using airplanes" in the summer of 2011. Responded by asking Donald Rumsfeld to give a report later. Personally believed that non-state terrorism was not a big deal or a big threat, had a report on same ready to go on Sept 11, 2011 but unfortunately was not able to attend that meeting.

Advocated and authorized the use of torture

Advocated and helped plan the invasion of Iraq

Helped perpetuate the WMD lie, and when that didn't pan out, she campaigned for Bush in 2004, an unprecedented action for a national security adviser, as the chief "excuse maker" for the Iraq invasion.

Really do you need more?

The Veep only gets near the White House on ceremonial occasions but in her case she might be called on to perform more often - sometimes with a piano.

I didn't say I gave her a pass. I meant I wish I could give her a pass. There's a lot to like there if you ask me, but she blew it, as I said above.

Anyhow, I don't think running for an office particularly interests her. I think they just put her name out there for no real reason except to make the media mention the VP search more than they were already.

so, the whole cabinet should resign when policy decisions are made with which they disagree? that would be great, but naive for anyone to believe that will happen (at least in the US).

If the whole cabinet disagrees with a policy decision then something is seriously wrong with the decision and the person in charge should probably be removed. And yes, resign, rather than doing something you think is wrong. Why is that such a strange concept?

The image above is showing two versions of a published photo. The difference in the eyes of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is the result of an alteration of the image -- apparently by the USA Today newspaper.

USA Today has admitted the alteration and removed the altered photo from its website with this explanation by spokesman Steve Anderson:

"USAToday.com, like other news organizations, often adjusts photos for sharpness and brightness to optimize appearance," Anderson told E&P. He added that an online editor sharpened the photo to brighten Rice's face, but did not do so in an effort to make her look strange. In this case, after sharpening the photo for clarity, the editor brightened a portion of Rice's face, giving her eyes an unnatural appearance."

The above explanation is false.

The alteration of the eyes was not the result of adjustments for "sharpness and brightness." If such adjustments were applied, they would effect all of the image, not just the eyes. A visual comparison and my direct overlay comparison of the two images shows that the only elements altered were Sec. Rice's eyes. Those alterations were not part of any attempt to "optimize appearance."

Some have written me suggesting that the Photoshop "UnSharpMask" (USM) filter was used (overused) to create that eye effect. I have done tests with the USM filter and no matter how bad the settings, it is not possible to alter the eyes as they were in the USA Today photo.

Once again: The alteration was deliberate and it was done to the eyes only.
