Would you agree Obama's first term has been relatively scandal-free?

I said "relatively." And for modern presidents. Even Jimmy Carter had Bert Lance.

Scandal-free? Perhaps.

But I think it has been disappointing overall. Especially for someone who campaigned on a platform of "Believe" and "Change" - not to mention published a book titled "The Audacity of Hope".

Failed economic policy after failed economic policy certainly isn't scandalous.
Unless of course, you are one of the 1%.

Of course. The Media Honeymoon is still on. You would think they are a lining up at the WH back door to give him sexual favors.

Staff turnover ? With Bush, each one was a Crisis In The White House. Obama ? Back page. 1/2 column inch. Rahm buys the Hizzonor slot ? Snore.. Etc.

I imagine this is what Dennis S. means (Wikipedia):

Quote

A political scandal is a kind of political corruption that is exposed and becomes a scandal, in which politicians or government officials are accused of engaging in various illegal, corrupt, or unethical practices. A political scandal can involve the breaking of the nation's laws or moral codes.

Some of the things mentioned in response do not involve those elements, so if what Dennis S. meant is in line with the Wiki characterization, then those are not relavent to Dennis S.'s intent in asking the question.

Well, I was hoping we could go down memory lane with Watergate, Lewinski, October Surprise, Iran-Contra, cronyism, etc.

When the accuser is a bigger crook than the accused, maybe things just work out for the best.

Fast&Furious, Solyndra, etc. are relativly mild scandals.

The total capituation to wall street weeines is the real scandal, but will never be reported as such, especially by conservatives. Too much vested interest.

They aren not "mild". Paying off your contributors using tax dollars under guise of industrial development has never been done before on this scale. It makes the military-industrial complex look like a joke.

Halliburton was the company that could deliver 150,000 hot Thanksgiving meals, 8000 miles a away form its base in the middle of a desert complete with mash potatoes and stuffing. You call this corruption? It is an American icon. What did Solyndra do for the country?

What is your problem with them? Obama would kill for just one more Halliburton.

As far as scandals go, Obama has a long, long, LONG way to go before his administration encroaches on Bush territory. Some righties (aka, the trolls) have a scotoma when it comes to the damage that that administration did to this country.

Bush and Cheney killed over 100,000 innocent people for Halliburton.

Seems the SEC was kit and kaboodle to the Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. insolvency and subsequent bankruptcy. Well in advance of their collapse, Lehman moved an entire SEC office into their headquarters with the supposed intent to oversee operations.

Their former chief even brought that up during Congressional inquiry. That would seem to have made them bullet proof enough to criminal charges to dissuade any sort of federal prosecution.

Even noting that it was a Bush era SEC, how can the government prosecute when it's complicit it the crime?

What exactly is your definition of scandal?

There is more to being a pretty bad president than "scandal".

Are you attempting to state that democrats are not vested with corporations and wall street???

That's quite a stretch of an argument:
"My president didn't kill and waste as many of our citizens as your president, so he's better."

I was kinda HOPING for CHANGE with Obama as president.

Instead it's been more of the same.

But really, it's foolish for us to expect different when the machine is still the same.

My read is that he is referring to the Obama administration. By removing the previous sentence you have confused yourself.

No one said better but you; Obama is just less scandal ridden. I also was hoping for more with Obama but that is not what we are talking about; the righties like to pound on Obama as if he were the worst person ever in that office without any recollection for the disaster that was Bush. They conveniently ignore that Obama inherited quite a mess from the Bush administration and like it or not, any derision of Obama should be equally channeled to Bush as well, as he was a HUGE cause of why we are where we are.

On the scale of things, I stand by my statement: Obama is nowhere close to the failure that was Bush.
