Mitt Romney To Donors: I Would Explain My Energy Plan, But Reporters Are Here

The problems with such a great fail is that, only those with half a brain will see/hear/understand it. Most of the brainless drones that back him won't comprehend what a tool this guy is.

"WASHINGTON -- Mitt Romney started to lay out his energy plan at a Tuesday event, but because there were reporters in the room, he decided against doing so.

During a Houston fundraiser, Romney told a room of about 125 donors that he planned to unveil his comprehensive energy plan this week. He said his proposal will specifically relate to fossil-based fuels. But then, he said no more.

"I know that we have members of the media here right now, so I’m not going to go through that in great detail," Romney said, according to a pool report from the event."

Has there ever been a presidential candidate so secretive as this?

It's one thing to not have developed a detailed plan, it's quite another to say you have a carefully considered plan and you'd love to share it with the big donors in the room, from the industry concerned, but hush! it's a secret. Can't let voters know.

That's an amazing amount of gall. He's broadcasting loud and clear to the voters that he's going to be doing backroom deals with industry fat cats that the public will not be privy to (gee, I wonder why...it couldn't be because the fat cats are going to profit at the expense of the public, could it?). Unfortunately, a large fraction of the public seems too stupid to understand what this means.

I am absolutely amazed to discover myself on this rock ball rotating around a spherical fire. It's a very odd situation. And the more I look at things I cannot get rid of the feeling that existence is quite weird. -- Alan Watts

When running against Humphrey, Nixon was pretty secretive about how he intended to get us out of Vietnam. People ended up referring to it as his "Secret Plan". And Nixon was one of our finer Presidents. eye rolling smiley

He should have a press conference and allow one or two reporters to ask a pre worded pre selected question about his plan.

It's Cheney's notorious Energy Task Force, Part Deux.

He didn't want reporters to know about that either.

I think people are missing an important point from the article: "Romney told a room of about 125 donors that he planned to unveil his comprehensive energy plan this week."

Quote

“We will be, I believe before the end of this week, in New Mexico describing a comprehensive energy plan, particularly as it relates to fossil-based fuels,” Romney told donors. “I know that we have members of the media here right now, so I’m not going to go through that in great detail so I can save a bit of that until a little later in the week. But your input is something I wanted to retain before we actually cross the T’s and dot the I’s on those policies.”

If this is true, then he isn't hiding his energy plan, he was telling them that he might have given them a better preview of the plan he will be announcing later this week if the reporters weren't there because doing so with the reporters there would have "ruined" his later unveiling. That's not such a big deal in my view. The bit about wanting donors input on an energy plan does strike me as not the best way to form an energy plan, but that sort of thing is, no doubt, common in the not-overt-quid-pro-quo type of corruption that operates within both political parties.

That at least makes more sense as national security is involved.

This is what happens when the foxnews/huffpo kool aid is imbibed... you get filtered truth...

Too many here on both sides prefer the 'news' that supports their political view and then pass it on as 'evidence' of evil from the other side.

Clearly, Romney just wants to wait until ALL of the spotlights are on him to reveal his plan

OK, let me see if I understand. Romney has a comprehensive energy plan already developed, but he wants to run it by big donors from the industry. Reporters were in the room, ready to report it. But he decided against saying anything simply because reporters were there. If he wants spotlight on his plan, that makes no sense.

I'm reading this differently than Hal or Ted I guess. I don't see Romney holding out for Thursday on a Tuesday night. I see him not wanting to discuss with reporters the same things he would discuss with big donors from the energy industry. IOW, it's Bush Cheney II when it comes to energy policy. This is how he's run his campaign to date, on nearly every single issue.
We'll see what he has to say on Thursday, and whether there will be details. I doubt it.

If you guys think he's REALLY waiting until the end of the week to put forward a DETAILED PLAN...I gotta bridge to sell you.

He hasn't put together a detailed plan about much, he's still working the "I'm rich, and rich people are smart, so trust me" plan.

The "detailed plan" is getting Obama out of the way. Nothing unplugs energy supplies faster.

As promised... the Mittster was in MN today talking about his wonderful energy plan. Your paranoia was unfounded... If he wanted to do a Cheney thing, there would have been no reporters anywhere near the scene and we never would have heard about it...

What is Obama's energy plan? Fact of the matter is you don't need a government "plan" any more than you need a plan to build cars. They happen.

Huh?
See thread above.
My prediction was true, his plan is short on details. And from what he has released, it is pretty much exactly the Bush/Cheney plan.
And he unveiled it in New Mexico, not Minnesota. He was not in Minnesota today that I heard.

He should have waited until after the election, like the keystone pipeline decision.
Looks like he just threw some environmentalists votes away.
Unprecedented secrecy.
