Google set to challenge PC makers with $200 entry-level computer

The Times (London, UK), by Joe Bolger

Google is planning an assault on PC manufacturers with an
entry-level computer that would mark its most audacious
expansion to date. The American internet giant is thought
to be on the verge of launching a slimmed-down machine
that will sell for $200 (£115) and work without Microsoft
software. Larry Page, co-founder of Google, is expected
to reveal details of the plans on Friday when he delivers
the keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show in
Las Vegas.

No thanks. I'll stay with my Mac and Firefox.

10 Years ago I read an article that prophesied that in the near future computers would be free
giveaways to entice you to use the company software. Cell phones are there now, computers
a few years away.

So, since free computers are a sign of the end times, I guess we dodged a bullet when Google failed to announce a Google PC at CES. Whew! What a relief.
